even if、だとしても、「も」

even ifはifの強調だと習ったと思う。だから、even ifは単なるifに置換可能。英訳の際に日本語原文の「としても」に引き摺られてついeven ifにしがち。ifなら、日本語訳は「もし～ならば」、「の場合」とかだろう。

上の例文はeven ifだから、日本語訳では、「たとえ勝てなくても」となっている。

evenが無ければ「もし勝てないなら」、「勝てないとして」だろう。

「も」があると、「勝てても勝てなくても」、「勝った場合は言うに及ばず、たとえ勝てなくても」のようなニュアンスに感じた、日本語の場合。

英語のifとeven ifの間にそんなニュアンスの関係は無いのかな？

"Even if you'd prefer to stay one more night, you still have no choice but to leave today"

「このようにEven ifを文頭に出すときはEvenは省略できない」（「表現のためのロイヤル英文法」、p253、旺文社）

そうなのかなあ？

Even if I were rich, I would still drive my Honda.

If I were rich, I would still drive my Honda.でもOKなんじゃ？

「明らかに正しい対策というものがあったなら（として）、それを実行しただろう」

"Even if there was clearly a right strategy, we all would have done it"とすると、「明らかに正しい対策というものがあったとしても、それを実行しただろう」となって変だ。

この場合は"even"が余計（元の意味を表すためには）。

しかし、

"If there was clearly a right strategy, we would still be having this problem."
「明らかに正しい対策があったとして、やっぱりこの問題に直面しているだろう」

"Even if there was clearly a right strategy, we would still be having this problem."
「明らかに正しい対策というものがあったとしても、やっぱりこの問題に直面しているだろう」

は両方ともOKでは？

この場合は"even"は単なる強調。
