先日のロンドン街灯支柱の不思議なマークの疑問、日本にある英国観光庁に投げかけてみた。東京経由でロンドンから帰ってきた答えは・・・
そのロゴはうちのセンター付近やリージェントストリート沿いの街灯の支柱という支柱についている。けどその意味はわからん。ひょっとして女王陛下から指定されてロンドンの土地を管理している王室所有地管理委員会と関係あるかも？
The logo is all over the lampposts outside the Britain & London Visitor Center and along Regent Street - and we have no real idea of the significanace, except that it may havre something to do with the Crown Estate, which is the agency appointed by HM The Queen to administer the land here.

１）あるときから外路備品を古典的デザインにしよ～ぜってことになったので、ギリシャの意匠にしばしば使われるCのデザインが登場した。
それでもって、
２）W（支柱についていたもうひとつの模様はいわれてみればWに見える）と組み合わせてウェストミンスター市議会の略称WCCと読めるのでそういう意味じゃないか？

Here is the official explanation for the Chanel-like logo from the organisation that manages the streets here
I have looked through our files on the "street furniture" for Regent Street, and cannot find an answer to your question. When the contract of the new lamposts, bins, fences, etc, it was passed to a sub-contractor, who changed the design slightly without consulting anyone else.
However, when Planning Permission was received around 1989/1990, it was suggested that the new street furniture should follow a design that was previously used in the late 19th century, that used elements of classical architecture, and apparantly interelinked C's were used in classical Greek architecture.
Another suggestion is that the two C's, when combined with the W (to form WCC) is a common abbreviation for Westminster City Council, in which Regent Street is situated. Maybe that's the easiest explanation go give to someone.
