上記したように芯出し調整時に、軸受台および固定子の位置を水平方向に小移動を繰り返す。また、位置調整作業が進み、最終段階になると微移動を行うことになるが、大形回転電機の軸受台重量は、例えば５０００～６０００ｋｇと重い。従来は、同図にも示すように作業者８が大ハンマー等を用い、図示しない他の作業者が保持している当てビシを当てて打撃により軸受台２を動かすことにより位置の調整を行っていたが、打撃による方法は、調整すべき寸法に合わせることが容易ではなく、力を加え過ぎるとオーバーランするし、力をセーブすれば所定だ０移動しない等何度も繰り返しをしなければならない。また、移動母を計測するためダイヤルインジケータを使いたくても打撃による衝撃のため使うことができない。
