betweenの後単数

betweenの後にはふつう複数の何かが来ると思うが単数の例：

"The purpose of bildung is to help people move through the uncomfortable transitions between each way of seeing." ("This is how Scandinavia got great", David Brooks, The New York Times, Opinion, Feb. 15-16, 2020)

"transitions from one way of seeing to another"とか、"between one way of seeing and another"とかならすんなり分かるんですが。
