Hello, everyone! It was so warm (hot) today, wasn't it? Here in Miyazaki, the temperature went up to over 30 degrees. Under this exceptionally hot weather, I have played tennis from 9 in the morning to around 6 in the evening. Yes, I was in tennis court for about 9 hours.
Did I get a suntan? You bet. I am in the process of changing my stroke style, so I should hit as many balls as possible. Did it improve? Well, to some extent, but I need more time to make it natural. I will play tennis tomorrow too and maybe Monday and Tuesday as well.

今回の表現、映画をみていると時々、いや、結構多く出てきますね。でも、まず率直な疑問。「「have to do」は「～をしなければならない」じゃないの？」って思ってません？そうですよね～、普通は。でも、その時は「have to do ＋何か（名詞）」ですよね。でも、ここでは「do」の後は名詞じゃなくて「with」（前置詞）。ということは「do with」で何らかの意味を持っている…？そうです、実は「to do with」で「～と関係がある～」「～に関係している～」って意味があるのです。次の例文をみて下さい。
１）I have nothing to do with it.
（僕はそれに関係する何も持っていない→「僕はそのこととは何の関係もないよ」）
２）The accident has something to do with the engine trouble.
（その事故はエンジンの故障に関係する何かを持っている→「その事故はエンジンの故障と何らかの関係がある」）
ということで、通常は「to do with」は、その前に「something」「anything」「nothing」「a lot」等がついて「～と関係する何か（多くのもの）」といった意味で使われます。以下、今回の表現が作られる過程です。

次はこの表現の使い方。この表現は、話し相手が何かを言った時に、「え、どういうこと？よくわからない。その前のことと今言ったこと、一体全体何の関係があるの？」という気持ちが湧いてきた時に、あなたが使う表現です。ですので、あなたがわからないのが悪い（？）っていうよりも、相手の言い方、その論理がおかしいのでは、といった疑問を相手に投げかける多少非難めいたトーンを持つことになりますから、相手が目上や先生の場合は使わない方がいいでしょう。友達同士がセーフです。強く言えば口論、皮肉っぽく言えば皮肉あるいはユーモアとも響きますので、その時の気持ちをしっかり入れて使ってくださいね。なお、この表現の変形として以下の表現もよく使われます。
