This month's session for the "英語で話そう会" was held on December 9 and for this session
we had a simple version of debate on "Japanese government should allow separate surname
for married couples". The session was led by me, Kobayashi.
Here are some of arguments for PROS and CONS.
PROS ----
1. it is basic human right to keep one's surname
2. separate surname protects the privacy of married or divorced couples
3. changing names may cause disadvantage in their career
CONS ----
1. nagative impact on Japanese traditional family relationship
2. already government official documents accept maiden name
3. imapct on children can be avoided
4. by allowing separate surname, it will increase the # of divorce
(Everyone gathering around the white board to discuss)
