The October meeting theme was “An Unforgettable Experience”. I am introducing the brief experiences shared as below:
- The experience of going to check the power plant immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake of 311 , and related experience during the trip.
- Participation of pilgrimage in Fatima, Portugal. I was asked to provide the prayer in Japanese. Some others were also asked to do the same. He was nervous at first, however, when he and others all completed the prayer, and he was filled with sense of unity and excitement.
- When I flew on a propeller-driven plane in the U.S., I had a chance to sit in the co-pilot's seat. I was surprised that the captain was flying the plane by himself, visually checking the road map and the road below, instead of an aerial map or any other instrument.
- I was in a foreign country, waiting for my wife’s delivery at the hospital for a baby to be born. After a long labor hours when the baby came out, doctor let me to cut the umbilical cord.
- When I was stationed abroad, I was informed that my mother was severely ill. I went back to Japan to help her in any way. I tried to find effective medical care for her, however, she passed away three weeks later. When I read her diary, I found she had wrote I was such a sweet child, which touched me deeply.
- Before I start working, I went on a 28-day overseas tour that took me to 10 countries. I thought it was a big experience, however, the tour had such a tight schedule that it was too busy and tiring experience after all.
- I went to Korea when I was a child and was surprised to know how different it was from Japan, which turned out to be a valuable experience for me after all.
Each member had interesting experience, and I think this is the enjoyable part of this group to hear the stories. Even if one is not fluent in English, we could always have fun communicating.
