・The area of the island itself is 6.5 hectares. With the development of the coal mine,
however, land was reclaimed on successive occasions around the perimeter of the island.
・The sea walls were also repeatedly improved. In addition, a large number of high rise apartments were built on the island for the mine workers. In terms of shape, the island looks like a warship. For this reason, it was given the familiar name ‘Battleship Island’
・Over 5000 people lived on the island in its heyday. In 1974 however, the mine closed due to the switch
