Hello, Diane---How are you doing?

2023-04-23 12:48

Although we're in late April, winter seems still lingering around.
How come we're having so many wet days?
It's because of the climate change, isn't it?

Cherry blossoms are falling down from twigs.
Yet I feel chilly winter air.
I wish to rise in more spring-like air.

Yesterday, I received a COVID-19 booster shot at the Shopper's Drug Mart clinic in Denman Mall.

(denm82.jpg)

The Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty® Original and Omicron BA.4/BA.5, bivalent COVID-19 vaccine is approved as a booster for people who are 5 years of age and older.

(biont10.jpg)

This booster shot was shown to increase the immune response against the Omicron BA.4/BA.5 variants.
This means that the booster is expected to offer protection against these variants.

I don't think I need this particular shot because I've never been to doctor since I immigrated to Canada a couple of decades ago.

Besides, I've never caught a cold for the last ten years.

Although I'm absolutely healthy, I received the shot to be on the safe side.
I don't lose anything anyway. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,...

Are you taking a booster shot, Diane?
If you're in doubt, read the following pages:

In any case, watch your steps when you walk down the sidewalk for shopping so that you would never get injured.

By the way, I viewed "The Secret Garden (1993)" on April 17.

Look at the following WIKIPEDIA list:

Based on the 1911 novel, so many movies, opera and musical were made over and over again.

So, this story must be good, eh?

Upon its publication in novel format, "The Secret Garden" garnered largely warm reviews from literary critics, and sold well, with a second printing announced within a month after the novel's release.

In general, it was seen as an enjoyable novel, and was reviewed within the context of Burnett's previous works, including Little Lord Fauntleroy.

It sold well during the 1911 Christmas season, becoming a bestseller in the fiction category, and placing on critical "best of" lists, including that of the Literary Digest and The New York Times.

Its literary debut in a magazine for adults led the public to understand it as adult fiction; the book was marketed accordingly, "with some overlap in the juvenile market", which affected its reception by the public.

Scholar Anne Lundin writes that "The Secret Garden struggled to assert its own identity as a different kind of story that spoke to both the romanticism and modernism of a new century".

I've found "The Secret Garden (1993)" best of all productions.

So why don't you book the DVD and view it later.

As usual, I've posted the following article:

I hope you'll enjoy reading it.

Anyway, please avoid any variant of COVID-19 and keep yourself healthy and younger.
Have a very nice day!

Your smiling Bohemian, Kato
with a lot of love as always

So, Kato, you enjoyed vieweing the Secret Garden, didin't you?

Oh yes, I did to my heart's content.

Diane, are you gonna book the DVD?

Yes, I'll do it... Kato, why don't you tell me what it's all about.

If you say so, I'll outline the story.

PLOT Spoiler Alert

(sgarden25.jpg)

In 1901, recently orphaned 10-year-old Mary Lennox is sent from her home in British India to her uncle Lord Archibald Craven's mansion, Misselthwaite Manor, in Yorkshire, England.

She was unloved and neglected by her parents, who were killed in an earthquake in India.
As a result, Mary is cold, self-centered and so repressed that she is unable to cry.

(sgarden23.jpg)

Head housekeeper Mrs. Medlock informs Mary that her uncle, who spends most of his time away, will likely not see her.

Mary hears strange sounds of crying in the house and discovers a hidden door in her room that leads to uninhabited areas, including her aunt's old room.

There, she discovers a large key.
Mrs. Medlock continuously sends Mary to play out on the grounds to keep her occupied whenever the crying starts in the house.

(sgarden32.jpg)

Mary discovers her late Aunt Lilias' walled garden, which has been locked up since her death 10 years prior.

She realizes that the key she found earlier unlocks the garden, but keeps it a secret.
She befriends Dickon Sowerby, the younger brother of the manor's housemaid, Martha.

Dickon is an outdoorsy boy who is good with animals.
Mary and Dickon slowly clean up the secret garden, and Mary becomes happier.
She also finally meets her uncle, who is sullen but kind.

Hidden away in the mansion is Lord Craven's son and Mary's cousin, Colin Craven, who has been treated like a sickly invalid his entire life.
A spoiled, short-tempered boy, he has never left his room nor ever walked and is confined to his bed or a wheelchair.

His father barely comes to see him in fear that Colin will die soon and he will lose his son.

Mary eventually discovers Colin, learning that he was the source of the crying in the house.

Although taken aback by his difficult nature, she puts her foot down and refuses to give in to his whims, showing him that he is not really sick.

Encouraged by Mary, Colin goes outside for the first time and Mary and Dickon take him to the secret garden.

(sgarden30.jpg)

The three children grow close and spend their free time in the garden everyday, where Colin, with their help, learns to walk.
The trio keep all of this a secret from the staff.

Colin wants his father to be the first one to see him on his legs.
Lord Craven has a dream of Lilias calling him home and returns.

In the secret garden, he sees Colin walking for the first time, leaving him speechless with joy.

(sgarden31.jpg)

Mary bursts into tears for the first time in her life, certain that she is unwanted by her uncle and the garden will be locked up again as he had ordered it to be.

Lord Craven reassures her that she is now part of the family.
Promising never to lock it up again, he thanks her for bringing his family back to life.

Dickon informs his older sister and the rest of the manor staff of the good news.
The staff watches in shock and joy as Lord Craven and the children come home together.

It sounds quite interesting, doesn't it?

Yes, as I said in the above email, "The Secret Garden" garnered largely warm reviews from literary critics, and sold well, with a second printing announced within a month after the novel's release.

Once I get the DVD, I'll watch it as soon as posible.

I'm pretty sure that you'll enjoy it to the hilt. You won't regret it.

I'm really looking forward to viewing it.

Well..., if a public library is close to your home, why don't you visit and borrow the DVD?

If not, you might as well rent the DVD from the nearby rental shop.

There are no library nor rental shop, here is a trailer for another famous movie:

Emmanuelle 1 - Ouverture

My heart throbbed like mad while I watched the above clip.
Sexuality is one thing; romance is another.

Come to think of it, I've never met a decent man in my life.
How come I'm always a loner?

I wish I could meet a nice gentleman at the library in my town as Diane met Kato.
Well, they say, there is a way where there is a will.

Have a nice day!
Bye bye ...

Well...if you love to visit Paris,

please enjoy the Paris theme:

Sous le ciel de Paris

by Édith Piaf

I like Chanson Française (French song).

How about you?

Kato also love Édith Piaf,

but he considers Juliette Greco's

"Sous le Ciel de Paris" much beter.

Sous le Ciel de Paris

by Juliette Greco

I believe Yves Montand's "Sous le Ciel de Paris" is the best of all.

I love Paris, but Vancouver isn't bad at all.

To tell you the truth, Vancouver is a paradise to me.
