The tomb of Noguni-Soukan who introduced sweet potato to Okinawa is in a cave
made of Ryukyuan limestone.
The tomb was remodeled by adding a stone platform and a miniature sanctuary.
Noguni-Soukan ( "Soukan” means a mission of Shinko-sen, a tribute ship to China )
brought sweet potato plants from the
province of Fukken in China ( the Ming at that time ) to Okinawa in 1605.
After that, sweet potato was distributed throughout Okinawa by Shinjyo Gima from Gima, Oroku.
