主語（一見）単数なのに動詞が複数扱い

複数扱いの集合名詞（police, people, cattle等）なら習ったが、"land"でも？"lands meet"なら納得なんですが。

要は記者は集合名詞と考えて書いたってこと？重要なのは見た目ではないんだと？
