こうしてノルウェー人はスキーを履いて生まれてくるんだなあ

●にこやかに滑るお年寄りに感化されたのですが･･･

ここで「スキー」と言えば、「クロスカントリー」。
私の家から徒歩２，３分のところにあるスキーコースでは、
雪景色をにこやかに軽やかに滑るお年寄りも見かけます。

そんな姿に感化されて私もスキーを始めてみました。

ところが、スキーをしながら、
私の心は意外なことに奪われてばかり！

●子どもがいるからって、趣味をあきらめない？

スキーの後ろの、あれは何？

赤ちゃんなのです。

「あんなにスピード出して大丈夫？」と驚く私に
「大丈夫さ」と相方さんは笑っています。

赤ちゃんは泣きもしません。

「雪の上を滑る」を早くも体得し楽しんでいるのかもしれません。

ここのお父さん・お母さんは、子どもがいるからと言って、
自分たちの趣味を諦めないんだ。

そう思いましたが、それだけはないようです。

●七転び八起きで、焼き立てソーセージも待っている

ブクブクのスキー服を着て歩くのもままならぬ子が、
自分でソリを運んでは滑る。
転んでも泣きもせず、また登る。
立ち止まりスキーをする年上の子たちを眺めて、
また続ける。

これぞ、子どもの学ぶ力！

その間、親は小屋で自分で持ってきた薪をくべて
ソーセージを焼く準備をしています。
（こういう小屋があちこちにあり、自由に使えます。）

休憩がてら小屋で食べるソーセージは、
さぞ美味しいことでしょう。

 

．そばで言葉少なに寄り添う親

ここでは、「スキーを教える」のは親の役目のようです。

２・３才くらいからスキーを履いています。
１歩、２歩･･･ステン！
よっこらしょっと立ち上がったとたん、ステン！

まあ、先に進むのに時間のかかること。

それでも親は手を貸すことなく、横や後ろで言葉少なに見守っています。
大声を聞いたことはありません。

自分たちも親にこうしてもらったのでしょうか。

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

●子どもの成長とともにゲレンデもアップ！

親子の姿に励まされながら、私も少しは滑れるようになり、
イースターホリデーには山のスキーコースに出かけてみました。

そこは、小学生くらいの子どもを連れた家族で賑わっていました。

私の力量では途中までしか行けませんが、
皆さんは先までどんどん行きます。

実際には、コースはあってないようなもので、
自然のゲレンデを自由に滑ることができるのです。

子どもが成長すれば、ゲレンデもアップしていくのでしょうね。

子どもも大人も、スキーを履いて雪の上を自由に移動する姿は、
かっこいい！としか言いようがありません。

そして、荷物を背負って滑る父ちゃん、母ちゃん。

子どもにとっても、かっこいいに違いない！

●代々受け継がれていく子育てエッセンス

長い目で子どもに関われて、
子どもが成長しても自然の中で一緒に楽しめるスキー。

彼らにとってスキーは、レジャー・趣味の前に、
「生活」なのかもしれませんね。

日曜日、トロムソの町ではレストラン・カフェがやっているだけ。
全てのお店・ショッピングセンターがお休みです。
ですから、自然の中でゆっくりとした時間を過ごしやすいのす。
しかも、代々そうやって過ごしてきたことでしょう。

そうそう、妊娠してもスキーをするそうですよ。

こうやって、ノルウェー人はスキーを履いて生まれてくるのですねぇ。

ノルウェー人にはなれなくても、エッセンスは頂きたいものです。

ちなみに私の来年の課題は、
お尻でなく、普通に止まれるようになること。(笑)

怪我なくスキーを楽しめたことに感謝です。

ソラもスキーと一緒に走ってみる？

●　雪の日も、氷の道も

トロムソで暮らし始めて２か月、
１４才・愛犬ソラは、元気でおります。
お陰様で風邪をひくこともありませんでした。
雪の中も、凍った道も、一日３回毎日散歩しています。
彼女は、毛並みだけでなく
肉付きもよくなり、足に筋肉もつきました。

Our lovely Sora, 14 years old,
has been very fine for 2 months since she began living in Tromso,
she has never caught cold, thankfully.
She has been walking three times a day every day,
in snow and on the frozen road as well.
Not only her fur but also her body got fatter and better
and her legs have muscle.

●フレンドリーで、躾けられた犬たちに出逢って

こちらに来てから、いろいろな犬に出逢いました。
散歩をしていると、どの犬も尻尾を振り振り近寄ってきてくれます。
放してある犬も寄ってきてくれるのですが、
「Kom her! (こっちへおいで！)」
の一言ですぐ飼い主の元に走っていきます。

スキ―をする家族と一緒に走っている犬もいます。
チワワのような小さい犬でも、
すごいスピードでスキーと一緒に走るのですよ。
子どもが乗っているソリを曳いている犬もいました。

We have met various dogs here.
When we were walking, every dog came close to her while wagging their tail.
Some dogs without leash also did so,
but they quickly ran back to their owner’s calling ‟come”.
Some dogs were running with their owner skiing.
Even small dogs like Chihuahuas run very fast when skiing.
I saw a dog pulling a sled which a child was sitting in.

一方、ソラは他の犬にそっけなく、
怖がって尻込みすることもあります。
躾けられることもほとんどなく、
車に弱い彼女は、
まだ私たちと一緒に車で出かけることもできません。

「番犬」のお仕事も引退したしなあ。(^_^)
何かソラと一緒にできることはないものか？

On the other hand,
Sora was not interested in any dogs,
sometimes she was afraid and shrinking back from them.
She has had little training,
she is not good at riding in a car
so we can’t drive anywhere with Sora yet.

She has retired from working as a guard dog. (^_^)
What can we do together with Sora?

●スキーと一緒に走れるか？

まずは、首輪をハーネスに変えてみました。
これが想像以上の効果で、
歩く距離も伸びました。

雪道にも慣れてきたことだし、
スキーを一緒にしてみるか！
ということになりました。
（こちらで言う「スキー」はクロスカントリーです）

First, we changed her collar to a harness.
That was even better than we expected,
so she got to walk longer than before.
She is getting accustomed to roads with snow
and we decided to try to let her run when we were skiing.
(“ski” means “cross country skiing” here)

ソラには、「自分がスキーの前を走る」ということがわかりません。

そこで、「ソラ、ついておいで！」
と私がスキーで先を行ったものの、私が遅い･･･。

それでも帰り道は、
ソラが先頭きって走リ出しました。早い！

残念ながら、後から着いてくのに必死だった私には
写真を撮ることができませんでした。

Sora couldn’t understand that she should run in front of the skier.
So I said “Sora, come on!” and I skied in front of her. Although my skiing is very slow･･･
But on the way home she started to run very fast in front of us!
I’m sorry I could not take the picture of her because all I could do was skiing behind them.

 

　　
●ぐー、ぐわー、眠り続けて復活！

帰ってきたソラは、早速ケージの中でぐー、ぐわー、ぐー、ぐわー。
眠りに眠った二日後には、すっかり平常ペースに回復しました。

「高齢を配慮しつつも、高齢を侮るなかれ」ですね。

Soon after she came home, she went into to the cage to sleep. Zzz, zzz, zzz
She had recovered back to her normal pace after she had been sleeping most of the day for two days.

We should consider about being old, but we should not make light of that.

そろそろ雪が解けます。

今度は何をしようか、ねえ、ソラ。

The snow will melt soon.

What will we do together next, Sora?

 

      

 

初めて日本からの友人一家を迎えて

●待ちに待ったこの日のために

I have always been looking forward to welcoming family and friends to Tromso.

At last, that day came, at the end of March,
A friend visited Tromso with her family.

私は身内や友だちをトロムソで迎えるのをいつも心待ちにしています。
３月末、その待ちに待った日がやってきました。
友だちが、家族と一緒にトロムソを訪ねてくれたのです。

I tried to make a map which introduces cafeterias, restaurants and so on.
I named it “Mat Map”. (“Mat” means “food” in Norwegian)
I checked about dog sledding and watching fjords, which they were interested in.
Then I just waited for them to arrive here.

私は、食べるのが大好きな彼女のために
カフェやレストランなどを紹介する地図を作ってみました。
名づけて、「Mat Map」。(“Mat”はノルウエー語で「食べ物」)

彼女や娘さんが興味あるという
フィヨルド巡りや犬ぞりのことも調べたし、
あとは彼女たちの到着を待つばかりです。

 

●うちからのオーロラは･･･祈るしかない。

On the next day after their arrival, they said,
“It’s enough for us with what we can enjoy in the town,
and watching the aurora from your house”.

We can’t see the aurora every day,
and we can’t predict when it will appear.
When the sky is covered with clouds, we can’t see it.
Even if it’s fine,
we naturally can’t see it if it doesn’t appear in the sky.

“Then come to our home every evening!”

I said, and I really prayed.
(When I visited Tromso the first time,
I couldn’t see the aurora at all during my week’s stay.
But I didn’t pray like so. (^^))

到着の翌日、彼女たちはこう言いました。
「町でゆっくりできて、
晴子さんのおうちからオーロラが見れたら、もうそれで充分」。

オーロラは、毎日見ることはできないし、
いつ出るか予測はできません。
空が雲で覆われていたら見えないし、
晴れても出ていなければ当然見えない。

「じゃあ、毎晩うちに来て！」

そう言って、私はひたすら祈りました。

（私が初めてトロムソを訪ねた時、１週間いても見れなかったけど
　こんなに祈らなかったなあ(^^)）

On the second day,
the aurora appeared ！
but it was not so strong, and lasted a short time.
　
二日目のこと、
強くもなく短時間でしたが、
オーロラは現れてくれました！

●雪道をガンガンドライブ！

The third day, the last day of their stay here,
we went driving with my husband as driver.

三日目・トロムソ滞在最後の日は、相方さんの運転でドライブ！

 

●フィヨルドの冬の神秘

On the way back, we took another way.

I saw a scene which I had never imagined.
It was the frozen sea!

帰り道は、行きと違う道。

そこで、私は思いもしていなかった光景に出逢いました。
海が凍っているのです！

Tromso is located inside the arctic circle,
but the sea around Tromso island does not freeze
because the water is warm due to the gulf stream from Mexico,
and the rise and fall of the tide is very big.

But here it is frozen!
Why?

北極圏にありながら、トロムソ島を取り巻く海は年中凍りません。
流れ込むメキシコ湾流によって海水が温暖で、
潮の満ち引きが大きいためです。

ところが、ここは凍ってる！

どういうこと？

There is a big lake on the mountain nearby
so the freshwater can run into the sea, under the frozen river.
Then the salt rate becomes lower and the sea can freeze more easily.

近くの山に大きな湖があり、凍った川底を流れ込む清水によって
海水の塩度が低くなり凍りやすくなるのだそうです。

This is the mystery of fjords in the winter!

これは、冬のフィヨルドの神秘でしょう。

●あれが、今季最後のオーロラだった！

Ten days have passed since their leaving.
I’ve not seen the aurora since then.
Because the sun is getting higher day by day
and now it’s still bright in the evening.
So now we can’t see the aurora.
That means they could observe the last aurora we could see from our home this season.

I appreciated their visit, and that they wanted to come to Tromso.

彼女たちが、トロムソを発って10日。あれ以来、私はオーロラを見ていません。
日に日に陽が高くなり、夜中でもまだ明るくて見えないのです。
つまり彼女たちは、うちのベランダから見える今季最後のオーロラに出逢えたということです。

彼らの訪問に、トロムソに来ようと思って頂いたことに改めて感謝しています。

     ・日本からトロムソへ　～しょっぱなから大失敗の巻き～

「春は桜」」から「トロムソの春」へ

●住んでみてわかる「春」

ここ数日、日本から桜便りが届いています。

桜が大好きな私は、日本では時を惜しんで
一人でも花見に足を運んでいたものです。

その私が今いるのはトロムソ、
ノルウェーの北部、北緯６９度・北極圏の町です。

もちろん、桜はありません。

雪の中でも新芽が吹き、凍っていた川が解ける。

これは想像していたことでした。

しかし、住んでみてわかる春があるものです。

From Japan, I have received news about the cherry blossom these days.
I love cherry blossom so I used to go watching it as often as possible.

Now I am in Tromso which is a town in northern Norway, in the arctic, at lat.69°.
Of course here is no cherry tree.

I had imagined that the buds grow and the frozen river melt even in snow.
But I found other spring signs while living here.

●あられも積もるんだあ！

春といえども、雪はよく降ります。

ある日は、雪がいつもと違うので、
よく見てみると「あられ」です。

まさにお茶漬けに入っている「あられ」。
あられがコロコロしたまま積もっていくのです。

あられも、春のしるし。

Even in spring, it is snowing a lot.
One day I found strange snow called “hailstones”.
It is very similar to Arare, Japanese cake.
Hailstones pile up while keeping their shape.
Hailstones are often seen in spring.

●路上をながれる川！

暖かい日には雨が降ります。
そう、雪ではなく、雨。

すると、雪が解けるのも早い。

雨が止んでも雪は解け、
坂の多いトロムソの路上を流れます。
まるで川のように。

これも、春にしか見れない光景でしょう。

It rains on warm days, instead of snowing.
Then the old snow melts faster.
After the rain stops, the snow melts and runs down the slopes Tromso has a lot of.
It’s like rivers.
It’s also a scenery we can watch only in spring.

●太陽が、高い！速い！

さらに雪解けを手伝うのが、太陽の熱。

一週間雪が降った後、突然現れた太陽の位置に驚きました。

一週間前より、うんと高い。
それもそのはず、５月半ばには白夜になるのですから。

And what helps snow to melt is the heat of the sun.

I was surprised about the position of the sun which suddenly appeared after it had been snowing for a week.
It was higher than the week before.

That is why the midnight sun will be here in the middle of May.

●鳥のさえずりが日に日に増える。

耳をすまして聞こえていた鳥のさえずりが、
今では、朝目覚めると、必ず聞こえてきます。

違う鳴き方が、日に日に増えてくるようにも感じます。

一体何を歌っているのでしょうねえ。

I could just about hear the birds singing earlier,
but now I hear them easily when I wake up in the morning.

I have the feeling that the types of birdsong are increasing day by day.

What song are they singing?

●イースターのお休みには、スキー！

春の雪を歓迎している人たちもいるんですよ。

イエスキリストの復活をお祝いする「イースター祭」はここでもあり、
仕事も学校も約一週間お休みになります。

そして、今がスキーをするのにいい季節。

彼らは、イースターのお休みにスキーをするのを楽しみにしているのです。
私もです！

Some people here welcome snow in spring.
There is the Easter festival here and Easter holidays for about a week for school and work.
And it’s a good season for skiing now.
They are looking forward to skiing during the Easter holidays. Me too!

●桜を思い出せるからこそ

私はトロムソにいながら、

桜の木のすぐそばにいるように、
木のたたずまい、花の香、風に舞う花びらを思い出すことができます。

これが、どんなに私を支えてくれることか。

I can imagine the scent of blossoming and fluttering petals
as if I were nearby a cherry tree, even though I’m in Tromso.

That encourages me very much.

だから、私は思うのです。
ここの春を存分に楽しもう、と。

今、また雪がちらついてきました。

So I think
that I will enjoy spring here as much as possible.

Now it began to snow again.
