すでにティッピングポイントを越えてしまったのではないだろうか。
そう思うような情報が、カナダのビンセント教授から届いた。
彼は、北極域の環境変動を監視するカナダプログラムのリーダーで、ここ10年くらい調査研究を続けている。
とても偉いの人なのだ。
この図の赤いところが、過去半世紀に気温が上昇した部分だ。
明らかに北極があつい。
彼のメールには以下のことが記されてあった。
Here are some slides I have put together for you which show how fast our world is changing, especially in the Arctic, which will drive further change elsewhere, including Japan.
We had a very interesting presentation by the Japan representative (NIPR) at a recent meeting (Arctic Observing Simmit) where he said that Japan’s climate may be strongly influenced by the Arctic e.g. very cold winters as a result of more weather exchange with the Arctic.
I am just back from a workshop in Iqaluit in the Canadian Arctic with the World Wildlife Fund to try establish a “Last Ice Area” refuge zone for polar species at the top of Greenland and Canada.
要点は三つだ。
（１）北極の気温上昇が急であること。
（２）日本の気候も、北極の変化に大きな影響を受けていること。
（３）グリーンランドとカナダで、北極域の種を守るために氷河保存域を確保するための基金を立ち上げること。
を述べている。
グリーンランドの氷も急速に溶けている。
冗談ではなく、地球の気候は大きく変わろうとしていることに、もっと真剣に対処すべきだろ。
