少し前に、背丈３０センチくらいの、もみじ（何もみじかは分からない）の若木を発見したことがあった。
発見場所は私がスキマと呼んでいる、壁とアスファルトが接する隙間であった。そこは駐車場だった。
もみじ、と聞けばすぐに京都や山の、紅や黄色に染まる紅葉の景色が浮かぶ。なんとなく他の木よりも高尚、なイメージを勝手に持っていた。
だから、もみじがこんな、雑草（と呼ぶのは忍びない）たちが住まいとするような場所で、生息しているなんて、と最初それと知ったときは本当に驚いた。
でも親切な方がそうですよ、と念押ししてくれた。自分が認識している世界はなんて狭いのだ、とショックだった。
周りをよく見てみれば、住宅街に意外にもたくさんのもみじ系の木がある。もみじは秋に、竹トンボみたいな形の３センチくらいの種を葉の間から飛ばすらしい。
その変わった形の可愛らしい種に気づいたのは十年ほど前。それが地面に落ちているのを見つけたのが数年前。芽を出しているのに気づいたのは今年である。
木の成長よりも遅い、気づきかもしれない。でも一度気づけばもう見つけられる。これからはもみじの成長過程にもご注目である。

I wrote about Maple trees in Japan.
There are many Maple trees that turn their colours when autumn comes. It's so beautiful, their colours are vary, red, orange, yellow and so on. In any living areas, we have many Maple trees. The trees have their seeds when it comes autumun. The seeds come out from the ground when it comes spring. I didn't know about their new fresh tops, when they come out as I knew their seeds when they were on trees around 10 years ago. I noticed their seeds dropped on the ground a few years ago. A few months ago, I found a young tree around 30cm growing at a narrow gap between the wall and the asphalt (a car park). I was surprised they live together with other many plants on the same place. I will see them and know about them more.
