立合い
拳をついた状態から、互いに目を合わせ、両者同時に立ち上がり、ぶつかる。普通は正面からぶつかり合うものであるが、必ずしもそうしなくても良い。この、試合の始まりを立合いという。
立合いは、世界では見られない、日本独自の方法である。その開始は、両者の暗黙の合意のみで決まる。仕切りを繰り返すうちに、両者の気合いが乗り、共にその気になった瞬間に立ち上がるのが本来の形で、行司は一般のスポーツのように開始を宣言するのではなく、確認するだけである。ただし、現実には時間制限などが設けられる。
土俵に拳をつける立ち合いは江戸時代の元禄の大相撲力士の鏡山仲右衛門が始めたものが広まったものである。
仕切り線ができたことにより発達した。これ以前は当時の写真をみればわかるとおり、立会いの距離制限がなく頭と頭をつけた状態から開始されることも多かった。

今週月曜日の「敬老の日」、テレビで大相撲を２歳９か月の娘と観ました。
途中で、娘と相撲をやってみましたが、娘はまだ相撲をどうとるのかわかっていないようでした。
娘との相撲はやめて、娘と一緒に、取り組みを一戦一戦よく見ていきました。
白鵬の取り組みを観た後、また、私は娘と相撲をしました。
娘は、テレビを観て、立ち合いの仕方もわかったようで、両手をグーの状態で床に付けました。
昨夜、寝る前に、娘と相撲を３戦しました。
妻は、これまで、私が娘と柔道など格闘技をやろうとすると怒っていましたが、どういうわけか行司の役をやってくれました。
「のこった！ のこった！」
娘が立ち合いから私にぶつかってきて、立ち合いが様になっているので、妻はびっくりしてました。
昨夜の取り組みは、娘の２勝、私の１勝でした。
On "Respect for the Aged Day" of this Monday, I watched the Grand Sumo Tournament with my daughter of 2 years old nine months on TV.
I tried sumo with my daughter on the way, but my daughter did not seem to yet understand how she did sumo.
I stopped the sumo with my daughter and, with my daughter, watched one sumo one carefully.
After having watched a fight of Hakuho, I played sumo with my daughter again.
My daughter watched TV and seemed to understand the way of the tachiai (moment when sumo wrestlers begin to fight), and touched both hands on the floor in the state of the stone.
Last night I did three sumo with my daughter before sleeping.
My wife was angry so far when I was going to do a martial art including the judo with my daughter, but played the role of the sumo referee somehow.
"Nokotta! Nokotta!"
Because my daughter hit me from the tachiai, and the tachiai looked good, my wife was surprised.
My daughter made two wins, and I made one win.
