Tome Torihama, who ran a diner near the Kamikaze base in Chiran, was affectionately called "mother" and "auntie" by many Kamikaze pilots.
Ensign Katsuo Katsumata left the base, saying, "I will give the remaining 30 years of my life to my auntie."
After the war, Tome-san lived to be 89 years old while working to comfort the dead and repose the souls of those who lost their lives.
