As you may know, I suddenly appeared as the "Turntable of Civilization" in July 2010 because the redevelopment project for Umeda Kita-Yard, which was said to be the best urban planning project since the end of the war and which took over 20 years to complete with the wisdom of both the public and private sectors in Osaka, suddenly fell into great confusion.
As I have already mentioned, the Asahi Shimbun caused the project to become mired in confusion and delayed its completion.
As I've previously mentioned, around 2010, I stood my ground against the formidable forces of Osaka City Hall, the Kansai Economic Federation, and the Keizai Doyukai.
They said they wanted to stop the second phase of the project.
There are only two places in Japan that are super commercial districts.
They are Ginza 4-chome and Umeda Kita-Yard.
At first, they said they would turn the area into a green park, but when I criticized them, they came up with even more outrageous ideas, such as building a soccer stadium and trying to attract the World Cup, starting with the then-mayor of Osaka City.
I pointed out the stupidity of this to the Japan Football Association and FIFA.
I asked them, "Where would anyone be stupid enough to build a soccer stadium on Via dei Condotti in Rome, the Champs-Élysées in Paris, or Fifth Avenue in New York?
I called them to account and had this foolishness stopped.
The fantastic city that is now being completed demonstrates that I was right and they were wrong, as they went on to say one foolish thing after another.
There is one more thing I have demonstrated.
I appeared on the Internet as a writer and wrote, "Everything starts with one person. The Asahi Shimbun newspaper and the buildings it writes about and talks about don't write or talk. One person writes and talks."
If it weren't for me, today's wonderful city would never have been born.
