■「金利上昇で財政破綻する」のウソを暴く

国民がだまされている 「ウソ」の実例は、まだまだ挙げることができる。例えば、最近の報道などでエコノミストらがしばしば使う「長期国債の利回りが上昇すると国債の利払いが急増し、財政が破綻する」という言い方だ。

現在、日本の国債発行残高は政府短期証券を除くと 約800兆円。長期金利は約1%だから、利払い費は年約8兆円で推移してきた。国債は2年国債から40年国債まであり、当然長いものが高い利率だが、平均すると現在発行されている10年国債の利率とほぼ同じになる。

さて、ここで国債利回りが急上昇して10年国債の利率が3・5%になったら、利払い費は2・5%分、20兆円も増え、とても払いきれなくなる、というのが彼らの理屈だ。

一見、筋が通っているのでダマされてしまう人も多いだろう。だが、この話には重大な“インチキ"が含まれている。長期金利が上昇したとしても、現実にはすぐにこのような影響は出ないのだ。
