Repost! Asahi's employees' recognition that facts alone are insufficient to make an article.

Angle is a term used to describe the "pulling" of an article by twisting the facts to suit one's principles, arguments, or company policy.
February 20, 2022
The following is from the book by Ryusho Kadota, an up-and-coming journalist, published on May 8, 2021, under the title "New Class Struggle Theory, Runaway Media and SNS."
All Japanese citizens who can read the printed word should head to their nearest bookstore to subscribe.
I will let the rest of the world know as much as possible.
Emphasis in the text is mine.
Introduction "Media Lynching" Kangaroo Court Era
The Purpose of Media Lynching
"Since when did Japan become a country that bullies the elderly?"
"What's wrong with that story? Isn't it about women being superior?"
In February 2021, when the extraordinary "media lynching" of Yoshiro Mori took place, I repeatedly heard such comments from people who had read the full text of Mori's remarks.
"They were not concerned with the "facts," such as the substance of what he said. All they care about is that they can strike a blow to "power" by playing Kangaroo court."
That's what I told them every time they asked me.
On February 3, at a meeting of the organizing committee that was open to the media, Mori spoke for about 40 minutes.
The media was listening online.
Mori is always a long talker, but he was even more eloquent than usual on this occasion.
He began by explaining the location of the meeting, the Japan Sports Olympic Square. He talked about the possible relocation of the Chichibunomiya Stadium, the Rugby World Cup, the Rugby Union, and many other topics.
The transcript of the tape would have amounted to about 8,400 words.
It is a lot of material, 21 pages of 400-character manuscript paper.
About 500 words of the transcript are about women, which were covered by the mass media.
In this section, Mr. Mori says, "Women are superior, so when there is a vacancy, I will always choose a woman (to replace her).
It is a praise of women's abilities or a compliment to the women on the organizing committee before him.
However, Mori is known for concluding slowly.
He digresses, takes detours here and there, and eventually brings them to a conclusion that he has already decided upon.
It is the so-called "Mori method," which is familiar to everyone in the political section.
On this day, before concluding, he took a "side road" to say that the women's board members of the rugby association of which he was the president were very competitive and that the meeting "took a long time."
Those familiar with the Mori storytelling method would have laughed and said, "He took such a detour to praise the women on the organizing committee in front of him?"
However, the atmosphere changed after 6:00 p.m. on the day of the event, when the Asahi Shimbun digitally distributed an article.
Yoshiro Mori said, "Meetings with many women take a long time."
That was the title of the Asahi article.
Those who had heard Mori's comments and were familiar with Asahi's methods must have been convinced, "Oh, so this is what they are covering."
They must have been convinced that Asahi was trying to make it an issue by turning it into discrimination against women.
Asahi is unrivaled in cutting and piecing together statements.
They ran into trouble by focusing on the first half of the 500-word article, a "side story," instead of the critical second half.
However, a journalist familiar with the "Mori Storytelling Method" would naturally have titled the article, "Women are superior. So when a vacancy arises, he chooses a woman." Mr.Mori Yoshio
It's just the opposite.
Of course, that would not be enough of an attack in Asahi, so the article would not be considered a story.
An article "without an angle" would not be allowed in Asahi.
The term "angling" is a cloak of the Asahi Corporation.
It means twisting the facts to suit one's principles, claims, or company policy.
It became famous in 2014 when Yukio Okamoto, a diplomatic commentator and one of the committee members, wrote in the report of the third-party committee established within the company on the issue of Asahi's comfort women coverage.
Many Asahi employees, including those interviewed by this committee, spoke of the term "taking a different angle. Merely reporting the facts is not enough to make a report; headlines only come when Asahi Shimbun's direction is set."
"I was surprised by Asahi's employees' recognition that facts alone are insufficient to make an article."
Not only Mr. Okamoto but the general public as well must be astonished at the realization that "facts alone do not make a story."
Simply put, this is natural because it means changing the facts by company policy.
But then again, this is the Asahi Shimbun.
In this case, the goal is to damage Mr. Mori and the Tokyo Olympics, force its cancellation, defeat the LDP in the election, and remove Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga from power.
All Asahi articles point towards that, and the facts can be changed to suit.
What is needed to denounce Mori's comments as "disparaging" to women is how to internationalize the issue.
In other words, "get the foreign media to pick up the story."
It will counteract the problem abroad and induce public opinion in Japan.
The most important thing is to use "absolute" words and concepts that no one can oppose.
To do this, they need core words.
The following keywords were used to denounce Mr. Mori and had a significant impact.
Sexist ■discrimination against women ■contempt for women
These were the words used by the Asahi Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun, NHK, and others in their English-language articles.
The head of Japan's organizing committee is sexist and has made unforgivable alarmist remarks against women.
That is how the foreign media reported Yoshiro Mori.
However, no one who knows Mr. Mori believes that he is a "sexist" or a person who "despises women."
He is well known for his respect for women's power at home and in politics.
However, the Japanese media, led by Asahi, does not care about "facts."
They then thoroughly Kangaroo court the person with a media lynching and bury him with fictitious matters.
If the person is reported abroad as a discriminatory and misogynistic person, all that is needed is to get comments from influential foreign sponsors and politicians, or Japanese politicians, business people, sponsors, intellectuals, stars, etc.
Once the "discrimination," "human rights," and "disdain" labels are successfully applied, it is no longer possible to oppose them.
If they do, they will be the target.
And then, the general public would be involved, and an abnormal "mass lynching" would be completed.
Thus, the 83-year-old Mori, who had been battling cancer and undergoing dialysis three times a week, was forced to resign.
By emphasizing the difference between men and women in terms of "gender," the media put women in a weak position.
Then they turned one person into a racist and buried him as a "person who despises" them.
Such an approach by the Japanese media is despicable in every sense of the word.
There was no fact-checking, courtesy, condescension, reserve, nothing.
I was deeply disappointed not only in the media but in Japan itself.
People exposed to the world the "shame of Japan" that they thought they had and degraded and despised Japan.
I have no words to say to those who have been led into the "new class struggle" and joined in the mass lynching through social networking sites.
This article continues.
