「インビクタス」の詩の表現

I am the master of my fate:  
私が我が運命の支配者

I am the captain of my soul.  
私が我が魂の指揮官なのだ

映画「インビクタス」で知った詩の一節です。

　これはなにも獄中で戦い抜いたマンデラや世界一のラグビーチームを率いた強い意志を有する者、特別な「私」だけの言葉ではなく、普通の人びとが持てる言葉と理解したいので、訳も少しだけ変えたほうがいい気がします。
意訳ということになりますが、

 

我こそが我が運命の支配者

我こそが我が魂の指揮官だ

  私はどんな神だろうが感謝する
  この屈服せざる魂を私に与え給うたことに

   

  恐ろしい危機的状況の中でも
  私はたじろぎも泣き喚きもしない
  運命のこん棒に殴られ続け
  頭は血まみれでも、その頭は下げない

   

  たとえ怒りと悲しみの果てに
  死の恐怖が迫っているだけだとしても
  何年もの脅しに晒されようと
  私は恐れていないし、これからも恐れない

   

  いかに狭き門だろうが、
  いかなる裁きの法が待っていようが関係ない
  私は自らの運命の支配者であり
  私は自らの魂の指揮官である
