Sound of engine was heard from early in the morning around my house these days.
Farmers were planting rice plants here and there.
My husband also began to plant them on June 10 and finished it today.
Now frogs are singing their songs in the rice fields happily.
Water from the pond began to fill the rice fields and farmers are busy in preparing for planting rice plants.
My husband also stirred our rice fields filled with water with the machine yesterday.
Stirring the rice fields, many swallows were flying over the rice field to catch tiny insects or worms.
They are also busy in feeding their baby birds.
My husband put the young rice plant outside the barn May 29.
It was eleven days after sowing seed paddies.
I took these pictures June 2, fifteen days had passed since sowing seed paddies.
They are growing well.
My husband will plant them to rice fields after a few days.
My husband uncovered white thin cloth today.
White rice sprouts have turned to beautiful green.
They are about 3cm now.
Five days have passed since we sowed seed paddies.
My husband put the boxes of seed paddies on the ground and covered them with thin cloth.
We can see white sprouts of paddies grown from a few millimeters to one centimeter.
My husband will water them every day till he plants them to rice fields.
The season of rice planting has begun.
We sowed seed paddies yesterday using a machine.
A few days after, we will put these ninety boxes on the ground.
we will be able to harvest about 2 tons of rice at the beginning of October.
I like this beautiful scenery of the rice fields after harvest.
A dairy farmer needs these rice plants for their cow, so they are drying them like this.
After drying, they will pile up them.
Taking a walk in the evening, I saw these scenery.
After harvesting, farmers are drying rice plants and roasting husks of rice.
They scatter them in the rice fields or vegetable fields to make good soil.
Most of rice plants around my house and ours has been reaped.
Some kinds of agricultural machines and implements needed for harvesting had been broken down, so my husband asked a farmer to harvest.
He reaped them yesterday and today.
We will be able to eat delicious rice before long !
It's the beginning of harvest now.
Rice plants grew well and the farmers began to harvest them.
This beautiful scenery will disappear before long.
Now typhoon no.18 is in the south of Japan and it may attack Japanese island .
Farmers are worrying about it because the rain and wind may give damage to rice plants.
It will make harvesting difficult.
A farmer set this electric wire around his rice field to prevent from wild animals like wild boar, raccoon dog and fox.
If they touch this wire, they will be shocked and run away.
This is a battle between man and wild animals.
About 80 days have passed since we planted rice plants.
They are growing well and I saw the flowers of this plant the other day.
Ears of rice plant are also growing well day by day.
We had less hours of sunlight than usual year in this summer, so crop prospects is worse.
But I hope we have good harvest in this fall !
Planting rice is over around my house.
Farmers will be busy controlling water, weeding and so on from now.
The scenery of ice fields is very beautiful .
By the way, we hear the sound of noisy frogs at night.
Spinach
My mother-in-law Shi-zu-sa-n had been growing various kinds of vegetables for many years, but she became too old to grow them.
So my husband decided to do that and he had bought some kinds of vegetable seeds and scattered them in the field the other day.
He planted potatoes cut into some pieces too.
He is very enthusiastic now.
Onion
Do you know what this is ?
The brown things in the rice field are compost that is made of dried rice plant straw and cow's excrement.
This compost will be mixed with the soil to grow good rice plant.
It is better than commercial fertilizer for our health as well as good recycling.
