Taking a walk the other day, I passed by the woods.
I happened to see many fallen chestnuts under the trees.

I saw this nice sentence on the bulletin board at the entrance of a zen temple.
It means that we are always cared by someone and we always trouble someone if we know or not.
For example, carbon dioxide that isn't good for environment increase when we breathe.
We should know that we can't live without the help of others so we should help each other.

I woke up to see a wonderful white world.
We seldom see a snowfall in this area, but the snow that began to fall in the yesterday evening seemed to kept falling till early this morning.
I saw a scenery like this for the first time this winter.

It's very cold today and cold wind from the north is blowing.
I saw snow flakes dancing around noon.
It's the coldest season of the year in Japan now, so we seldom see flowers.
But the trees and plants are preparing for the spring.
I see hard little buds on some kinds of trees now.
These are flower cabbages that I saw my neighbor's yard.

(17:00)
It had been raining all day today, but it stopped raining in the evening.
So I went out for a walk.
On appearing from behind the cloud, the evening sun set soon.
Sun set (17:01)
Gate of a zen temple
It is said that these Buddhist saints save the human being whose soul would transmigrate six world (hell , hungry demon, brute, syura, humanity, and heaven) till one of the saints 'Mi-ro-ku Bo-sa-tsu ' appears to save us.
We can see these six saints here and there in Japan, especially at the temple or at the entrance of the graveyard.
I saw this very old images at our zen temple.
Taking a walk in the evening, I saw this violet.
In spite of the mid-winter, it's warm these days.
So this spring flower might have bloomed.
Taking a picture of this flower, I found a retired man pruning a pine tree in the yard of his house.
So we were chatting for a while including his wife.
At that time another man who would retire from his work this April walked by and joined us.
Next the neighbor who had retired a few years ago came out of his house and joined us.
Last a man taking a walk also joined us.
He had retired from his work a few years ago.
They are all in their sixties.
There are lots of people like them around me.
But they aren't too old not to be able to do anything.
I wonder how they are going to spend the days after they retire.
They must have been looking forward to retiring because they had worked very hard for a very long time !
We made a small wood fire on Sunday morning.
A strong typhoon knocked down many tall trees of this shrine in the fall of 2004, so we cut them into pieces to burn down.
And we fire them in winter.
This was the first time in this season.

May this year be a happy and nice one for all of us !
It's very cold today, but it's fine and I saw no cloud in the sky in the morning.
So many people might have been able to see sunrise on new year's day.

We visited our newly built zen temple in the morning and we recited a sutra with the priest wishing for our happiness of this year.
After that we chatted with a cup of tea or a cup of Japanese sa-ke celebrating a New Year.
By the way, this temple has just finished construction.
We are going to have a ceremony to celebrate this building a few month later.
