Apple mint

Eighty-seven -year-old Shizu san is growing lots of herb named 'Apple mint' in her vegetable field.
After cutting to pieces, she is drying them to use in the bath as aroma.
We put the dried herb into a little bag made of cloth and put it into a bathtub.
The scent makes us feel good.

Though I've never had Apple mint tea yet, we can use this herb as herb tea too.

After rice planting

 My husband planted young rice plants  on  10  this month.
They are growing day by day and  the light green is turning to dark green little by little.

June 20

This  pinwheel  to drive away moles  that make tunnel under the ground was made by my husband.
If the water in the rice fields flow away through the holes, these rice plants will wither.
So he made many pinwheels  using used plastic bottles.

This picture was taken today.
Rice plants are growing well in the hot weather in the rice fields filled with water.

Farmers are very busy filing water with the fields, fertilizing,  weeding and so on.

 

 

Flowers in my yard

'Cactus flower'
Some kinds of flowers are blooming in my yard now.
This cactus flowers open in the morning and wither in the afternoon.

It's very sultry these days.
But seeing these flowers, I feel cool a little.

The sky on June 23
It's a rainy season in Japan now.
So we seldom see blue sky like this though they say the shortage of water because of little rain now.
We have cloudy days these days.

These pink flowers named Hollyhock；（Ta-chi-a-o-i) are blooming on the side of the footpath in front of my house.
I feel coming of summer when I see this flower.

Hydrangea

Flowers of Hydrangea　are in full bloom now.

This flower changes it's color from green to blue or light pink and violet.
And it's color also depends on the PH of the soil.

This flower has a deep relation with a German doctor named Siebold who came to Nagasaki in the period of national isolation.
He loved this flower very much and named the biggest kind 'O-ta-ku-sa' after the name of his sweetheart named 'O-ta-ki sa-n'.

Anyway this flower is a typical flower that blooms in June in Japan.

Shortage of water

June 16　(19:35)

  It's rainy season in Japan now.
But it hasn't rained  so much, so we are worrying about the shortage of water.
Especially the farmers who are growing rice plants are praying for  rainfall because they need much water for rice fields.

 

Smoke tree

I see this tree in the yard of my next-door.
Seen from my house, the tree is like white smoke.
I wonder what the tree's name is, so I asked the neighbor.
She told it's name is 'Smoke tree'.
I think the name presents the figure !

Just before rice planting

  Farmers began rice planting around my house.
The rice fields are filled with water and many farmers are working busily now.
My husband is also busy cultivating, watering the fields and so on.

Sprouts of rice plant are growing beautifully !

In the pond

  Taking a walk , I see this pond every day.
Following yellow iris, lotus flower will bloom before long.
The leaves of the flower are growing day by day.

On the surface of the water, I saw some water strider.
I saw it after a long time.   

Three years !

Paeoniae radix

   About three years has passed since I began to take pictures with a digital camera and upload them on the blog.
Though I've never had a hobby of taking pictures till then, I found it very interesting.
I had  a new hobby then.
I don't know whether I am good at taking pictures or not, but I love  this hobby very much.
