Furthermore, they held a public hearing based on this and concluded that Lockheed had given bribes to a person of the rank of prime minister in Japan. 
In American legal texts, such evidence of unknown origin is called "fruit from a poisonous tree" and is rejected.
However, when the other party is Japan, they don't care.
Tanaka Kakuei, who was implicitly named, had restored diplomatic relations between Japan and China, had struck a deal for Indonesian oil, and was discussing the development of Siberia with the Soviet Union.
The United States, which felt it had brought Japan to its knees, must have felt cheated.
Ordinary Japanese people think that if they feel something is going to happen, it will. 
However, the District Public Prosecutor's Office Special Investigation Unit was different.
They only thought about their glory, thinking, "We might be able to get the Prime Minister's head."

On top of that, Hotta went to the US to get evidence.
The US was happy to hand over dubious evidence, but they categorically refused to get testimony from the key Lockheed executive involved in the bribery.
They would be caught immediately if they officially admitted to the crime.
However, the Japanese side needed the testimony.
Hotta asked, "Please do the questioning on your side.
It is what is known as a commissioned interrogation.
He also added the condition that there would be no cross-examination and that even if they told lies, they would not be charged with perjury. 
He said, 'You can make up any story you like."
On the other hand, the special investigation team of the District Public Prosecutor's Office asked the Supreme Court, "Please accept this as evidence even without cross-examination. If you do that, we can arrest Kakuei." 
I thought Japan was a country of law based on evidence.
However, the Supreme Court issued a statement saying they would use "just nonsense" that was not legally qualified as evidence.
It was the moment when Japan stopped being a country of law.
Yoshinaga Yusuke was questioned about this at a press conference.
He was asked if Japan was still a country of law.
Yoshinaga replied haughtily:
"In the United States, people testify with their hands on the Bible. Americans don't lie." 
The reporter wondered why there was a crime of perjury, but he kept quiet because he would be banned from the prosecutor's office if he said anything.
In fact, Hotta also said, "Indians don't lie. Americans don't lie either."
Three days after the manifesto was released, Kakuei was arrested on the evidence of the poisonous fruit that had become a tree in the United States.
