Election

2004-10-21 | diary
Traditional Japanese handballs made by my aunt-in-law.

Next Sunday is an election day.

I can hear the sound of an election campaign.
This will last untill this Saturday evening.

We must elect three person.
First a prefectural governor, next a mayor of our town and last a member of a town assembly.

Our previous mayor retired because of the union problem, and he came forward again to ask the townspeople if his insistence is right or wrong.

And one of the town assembly retired to come forward as a candidate for a mayor, so there is an election to fill vacancy.

I think an election of our mayor has the union probrem , so it will become dead heat.

He was evacuated to the house and wrote his masterpieces there.

And this small shrine is famous for the name used in the mystery as Koichya no Baasan.

Every year, leaves turn red about this time of the year.
But this year they fell to the ground before becoming red.
These red things are the seeds.

Anothr tree whose flowers are white has leaves now.
But they haven't turned red yet.

Perilla

2004-10-16 | plant

There are two kinds of 'perilla or beefsteak plant'; red ones and green ones.
Green ones are called 'o-o-ba' in Japanese.

Red one is used for 'shiso-juice' and 'picklied ume';'u-me-bo-shi' in Japanese.
The red color is beautiful in 'u-me-bo-shi.'
Green ones are served with 'sashimi' or put into sauce after cutting into pieces and so on.

Now they are producing seeds which we can cook, for exmaple 'te-m-pu-ra'.
It's delicious.
