米小売売上高初の減少 08年0.1%減 世界経済に重し 12月2.7%減

It is learned that according to a data released on the 14th by the Department of Treasury, U.S. retailers' sales in December last year recorded 343.2 billion dollars (about 30.5 trillion yen),which was seasonally adjusted, with a 2.7-percent decrease from the previous month. In terms of the total ammount of the sales in the whole year of 2008,it was 4.478 trillion dollars (about 398.6 trillion yen) ,a 0.1-percent decrease from a year earlier, which is the first decline from the previous year since 1992 when the current data analysis began. This shows that consumer spending also lost its momentum against the background of the U.S.economy's slowdown triggered by the country's housing loan's turbulance
.U.S. consumption spending, which has been leading the world economy, likely will weigh on the global economy from now on for a while.
