Fruitful season

2004-08-21 | food

The other day we were presented these musk melons having grown in Yamagata. I didn't know that they grew melons there.

Especially the region is famous for growing cherries. They also taste good and beautiful to see.

In fall, many kinds of fruits, for example, pears, grapes, tangerines, kiwis, apples, persimmons, figs, chestnuts, ripen.

There are four seasons in Japan, so various kind of fruits grow in each season.
We are blessed to be able to taste them.

Medalists at the Olympic games

2004-08-21 | diary

This flower is Verbena hybrids, 'ha-na-te-ma-ri ' in Jpanese.

Japanese Olympic players are getting many gold, silver and bronze medals in Athens now. I see the medalists on TV every day.

Although they look very severe and hard during the fight, their looks become quite diffrent after they won.
Smiling softly, each medalist looks happy and charming. They make us happy too.

The appearance of man and woman seems to be influenced by the mind very much.
So the man who is content and happy looks nice, isn't he?

An annual event

2004-08-18 | shrine and temple

Yesterday an annual event called ' SEGAKI or SEJIKIE ' was held at our ZEN temple.

A few priest and the members of the temple got together and prayed for our ancestors for about an hour.
After praying, we enjoyed eating and drinking.

It is held on August 17 every year.

Christiamity is the religion of love.

Meanwhile Buddhism, especially 'ZEN' is the religion of spiritual enlightenment.
Though it is very difficult, we aim for the enlitenment which is a goal.

This picture is 'Shaka or Budda' painted by one of the famous painters in Japan, Ikuo Hirayama.

It has passed 59 years since it was over.

Yet there are wars in the waorld.
Why?

May the people all over the world live in peace!!

Prayer at the grave

2004-08-14 | diary

Today I went to my parents' grave with my husband.

We go there to pray three times a year. In March, August and September. I think almost all Japanese do so.

Japanese people respect ancestors very much. Especially Buddhists do.

This is one of the annual events.

What's this?

2004-08-14 | plant
Can you say what this is?

We are living with my husband's mother who is eighty-four years now.
She enjoys growing various kinds of vegetables all the year round. So I don't have to buy vegetables. Thanks to her, we can eat fresh ones.

These are sesame trees.
After drying them, she takes out sesame seeds.
