It is learned that according to a data released on the 14th by the Department of Treasury, U.S. retailers' sales in December last year recorded 343.2 billion dollars (about 30.5 trillion yen),which was seasonally adjusted,with a 2.7-percent decrease from the previous month.In terms of the total ammount of the sales in the whole year of 2008,it was 4.478 trillion dollars (about 398.6 trillion yen) ,a 0.1-percent decrease from a year earlier,which is the first decline from the previous year since 1992 when the current data analysis began. This shows that consumer spending also lost its momentum against the background of the U.S.economy's slowdown triggered by the country's housing loan's turbulance
.U.S. consumption spending,which has been leading the world economy,likely will weigh on the global economy from now on for a while.

In these circumstances,while the balance of the fixed deposits increased nearly 6 percent (5.6 percent) from a year ealier as of the end of November last year,the one of trust investments decreased about 40 percent over the same period.Yucho Bank's deposits also increased after a 5-year interval.It is said that the value of the stocks and trust investment hoseholds had held declined by more than 100 trillion yen.So,many individuals have come to recognize the risk on investing in stocks and others,and have turned their minds toward safety-oriented. In terms of corporates' collecting funds,many big businesses have already turned their way of raising money to bank loans from the conventional way of issuing the bonds,making clear the trend of depending on financial institutions,that is, the indirect financing through the banking system.
