Many of service-providing companies are reducing their prices now.Specifically,some of major travel agents,such as JTB Corporation,have reduced their oversea travel prices in the period from April to September by 15%,and some of major hotel operators like Prince Hotels,Inc. have reduced their prices for a room by 4-8%.These movements are all aimed at preventing their customers from going away,amid the condition that the contraction of the market is going on due to population's declining and smaller number of foreign tourists coming to Japan.In preparatory schools and beauty parlors also,they have started to reduce their service charges.Some of them are likely to reduce their charges to half.
Until now, the price decling has been proceeding in the areas of consumer goods like food and household appliances,physical distribution and temporary worker dispatching. The movement this time is for the services for individuals.In these circumstances,this would be a double-edged sword because this will be the factor of squeezing profits for many service-providing firms while surely stimulating customers' consumption.

社名

私はおもに経済関係の記事を読んで自分の英語能力をはぐくんできたと思っていますが、社名については、英文記事ではふつう最初は正式の名称を記し、以降は簡略化します。例えばトヨタの場合は、最初Toyota Motor Corporation であとはToyota です。この流儀で行くと、社名が出てくるときは、正式の社名をおさえたほうがいいと思います。それはGoogle で検索可能です。実際の通訳の本番では、わからない時は、簡略形式で行くしかないでしょうが。
通訳の現場で一番大事なのは、情報を適格に把握する能力でしょう。すなわち、情報で提示される内容で、登場人物（主体）と場所をおさえる。あとは登場人物間の関係。表現すべき関係がはっきりしているのに、表現できなければ、それは英語能力が不十分ということです。ですが、もし不十分だと認識できれば、その表現方法を探せばいいわけです。不十分の認識があり、そのあと苦労して覚えた表現方法は、これまた私の言い方でいえば、自分なりに肉体化された表現なので忘れない。
英語が出来るできないという、一般論を言うよりも、その種の具体的な、営みが、英語能力の伸長には重要なのです。外国で暮らして英語がうまくなるということは、例えば、そうした事の繰り返しではないでしょうか。そのことは国内でも出来るのです。

三井住友に優先交渉権　日興コーディアル買収　米シティ　来月合意目指す　５０００億円提示

On Friday it was learned that Citigroup had given a negoatiation priority to Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group regarding the deal of selling out most of the businesses of its subsidiaries,Nikko Cordial and Nikko Citigroup.The deal scale in terms of value is estimated around 500 billion yen,according to the proposal from Sumitomo Mitsui. They are going to enter into the final negotiation for reaching an agreement next month or later.

参考：記事の見出ししか記していないが、実際は記事のリード部分を読んで訳している。こうした場合に情報を整理する方法とすれば、内容が、例えば黒板に図示できるようであれば、いい。内容が明確でないと、黒板に図示出来ない。頭の中で黒板に絵を描く感じである。そのときに、何を描くのか。まず登場人物である。今日の記事でいえば、米シティと三井住友の二人です。これに日興シティグループ証券と日興コーディアル証券がある。で、問題は、シティと三井住友の関係です。それだけである。次に場所です。時間的概念も場所として整理する。ここでは、現在の話だが、気にすべき場所概念、時間的概念は、来月またはそれ以降、ということです。この整理が出来ないと、記事で示された内容に等位の英文は書けない。英文はいろいろの言い方があってもいいと思う。

街で出会った言葉

一方通行　軽車両除く:最初　one-way traffic lane excluding light vehicles と発想したのですが、そのときふと、exclude の主語はなんだろうと疑問がわいた。こうした時は、まともな文章を一度作ればいい。This is a one-way traffic lane for vehicles except for light vehicles.なので、one-way trafic lane,except for light vehiclesとは言えるだろう。テナント受付、ご入居受付、はすべて、テナント募集中と同じと考える。：tenant wanted,しっぽまでおいしい　たいやき：Taiyaki, deliciopus! you can eat up to the tail,染み抜き名人：Stains will be solved here! 広告出せます：　Advertisements are allowed to be posted here.なのでadvertisements allowed here はどうか？自転車、バイク等の乗り入れ禁止：You are not allowed to get into the compound on bicycles or motorbikes. またはYou cannot get into the compound on bicycles or motorbikes.と言えるなとは思いますが、これを短くするコツがわからない。何を悩んでいるかわ説明が難しいので省略します。各種金券類買います：金券がなかなかわからない。そんな時は商品券等と表現する。なので、We'll purchase your gift coupons(,telephone cards) and others!金券という言葉は英語でちゃんとあるのでしょうが、それがわからない時は、前述のようなかわし方と、もう一つは、自分で言葉をつくる方法がある。例えば、money-equvalent ticket, ticket which is equivalent to money.金券とはお金のような値打ちを持った券です。金で出来た紙幣ではない。a gold note ではないのである。

研究開発費　減税の条件を緩和　翌年度への枠繰り越し　投資減少でも適用

According to sources,the government has a plan to ease its standards for the tax reduction for research and development cost with the aim of helping Japanese companies make a positive investment in their businesses for boosting their competence.At present,when the range of tax reduction is not fully covered in a year,the remaining part of the range could be transferred to the next year, if the amount of R&D investment cost of the company exceeds that of the previous year.But,under the new scheme, even if R&D investment does not exceed the previous year's one, the transfer of the tax reduction range to the next year could be possible.

参考：研究開発減税は、research and development cost tax reduction と言っても文法的に間違いないとは言えないが、長すぎる。だから、research and development tax reduction とすると落ち着いてくる。さらに、R&D tax reductionとすればほぼ問題はない。だけど、こうした場合は後置修飾が無難である。with the aim of の代わりに、with an eye to ...ing の形もよくつかわれる。後半の英語は難しい。またあまりいい英語だとも思えない。すっきりと表現できていない。けれども内容も複雑である。というのは、記事の内容自体が難しいので、実は内容を想像した。どうやら、１０の減税枠をある年に消化できなければ、現行の制度では、翌年度に研究開発投資額が前年度よりも増えた場合のみ、未消化部分を翌年に繰り越せる、というもの。したがって、当該年度の減税枠と繰り越された減税枠の恩恵を当該企業は享受できるというものらしい。繰越にはtransfer 繰延にはdefer という言葉がある。こうした内容は絵に描いてもらうと説明しやすい。内容の不明なものは英訳のしようがない。だから英訳する立場から言えば、内容をもっとはっきりさせろということであって、英語力がないということではない。けれどもあいまいな日本語を訳さなければならないことは現実には多いことなので、訓練としては、嫌がらず英文化したほうがいい。想像力も駆使しなければいけません。
