It has been learned that SHOWA SHELL SEKIYU K.K. will build a world' s largest -class new plant for solar generation panels in 2011 with more than 100 billion yen invested for it. The production of the panels from the plant per year would be,in terms of electricity volume, on a par with a nuclear power generation plant, standing at around 1,000 megawatt.It intends to mass-produce new-generation-type products competitive in manufacturing cost than the conventional types and aims at becoming a world major manufacturer,following Sharp and such a big company.Given the current trend of the gasolin-related sales' declining,the company wants to make the panel-producing business a core and pillar of its earnings.
