orange pulp

子供の読み物 "Stuart Little" からです。
He had egg on his trousers, butter on his cap, gravy on his shirt, orange pulp in his ear, and banana peel wrapped around his waist.
"orange pulp" とありますがパルプと言うと紙パルプしか知らないのですが、"orange pulp" はオレンジの外皮と実の袋の間にある繊維状のものを示すような気がするのですが同でしょうか？
辞書では "orange pulp" は見つからなかったので "pulp" で調べると、

とありました。　これっていわゆる果肉の事ですよね。　"orange juice with pulp" というと、（果肉）粒入りオレンジジュースの事のようです。　チャンスがあれば実物で確かめたい。

Speak of the devil

今週の日曜から毎晩世界卓球を見ています。昨日の韓国との最後の試合、福原愛ちゃんの試合には本当にハラハラしましたが勝って良かったですね。今日のフランスとの試合でも愛ちゃんの試合はハラハラさせられましたが残念ながら負けてしまいました。でも平野選手が仇を討ってくれたので日本は勝ちました。テレビで平野選手の事を（勝負の）鬼、鬼と連呼しているのは何だか聞いていて気の毒な気がします。男子の試合も深夜に放送しているのに気がつき今日からビデオの予約をしました。
ところで鬼で今日のネタが思いつきました。
日本語でもそうですが、英語にも話し言葉にあっても書き言葉にはない表現(Pop phraseは典型的な会話表現です）は会話文を含まない本（小説以外の大半の本はそうですね）を何冊読んでも習得できませんが、ネイティブと会話をする状況になれば自然とその様な表現に接するので段々と覚えられるのでしょうね。何年も前の事ですが米国のメーカーの代理人の仕事をしていた事があり、その頃は年に２度程米国に出張し、また日本を管轄する米国人の上司がやはり年に数回日本に来ていたので英語を話す機会がありました。その頃その上司がある時私と二人で話をしている最中に "Speak of the devil" と言いました。すると上司の目の先の方向からその発言の前に二人の話の中で出た人が現れたのでした。この表現自体は会話の本で知ってはいましたが耳にしたのは後にも先にもこの時だけです。"Speak of the devil" は日本語で言えば「うわさをすれば影」で、Wipedia に詳しい説明があります。
"Speak of the devil" is an idiom or phrase used in both written and spoken English. It is used when an object of discussion (normally a person) unexpectedly becomes present during the conversation. For example, if Alice and Bob start discussing Charlie while he isn't in the room, and Charlie walks into the room, Alice or Bob might say, "Speak of the devil!"
It can also be used about a topic that quickly becomes relevant, such as the onset of rain or a car breaking down. Used in this sense it can be seen as an alternative to the phrase "tempting fate".
