リーダーズダイジェスト６月号にあった俳優Denzel Washingtonについての記事からです。
Speaking to Reader's Digest recently from a set in Los Angeles, Washington is thoughtful in conversation and quick to laugh, proving his reputation: The Hollywood go-to guy is grounded.
映画はほとんど見ないのでDenzel Washingtonが誰だか全く分かりませんが、"go-to guy" の形容は褒め言葉に違いありませんが、辞書を見ます。
Dictionary.com: Being a player on an athletic team who is relied upon to make important plays, especially in clutch situations: the team's go-to receiver.
Wiktionary: Desirable; Reliable; likely to perform in difficult circumstances.
どうもフットボールから出てきた用語のようです。　本当の本人はどうだか分かりませんが映画の上では "go-to guy" 役を多くやっているのでしょう。

perturbation

赤毛のアンは孤児院に戻されるのでしょうか？

赤毛のアンは子供の小説なので余り難しい単語は出てこないのですが、この "perturbation" は難しそうな単語です。　辞書を引きます。

The Japan Times Online, Aug.9にあった記事タイトルです。
Humor may be universal, but Japan's is largely its smut-free own
記事の中身はニュースではなくROGER PULVERS氏による日本人のユーモアに関するエッセイでした。　"smut-free" の意味も本文を読むとだいたい分かるのですが、本文は長いので引用しませんので興味がある方は是非この記事（http://search.japantimes.co.jp/mail/fl20090809rp.html）を読むことをお薦めします。
"smut" を辞書で見ます。

日本のテレビ番組の中には品の悪いのも結構あるので、氏の言う "smut-free" はlargelyが付いていてもやはり大げさと思いますが。

homeopathic remedy/homeopathy

今年の４月に "hair off the dog"/"hair of the dog"（http://blog.goo.ne.jp/k_akabane/e/a487bbea1cc1375c769103cdd408bb92）を話題にしましたが、この療法を示す言葉がリーダーズダイジェスト６月号にありました。
I understand that British men with hangovers consume the fur of dogs which bite them. Eww. Clearly, this is a homeopathic remedy.
"homeopathic" を辞書で引くと： of or relating to the practice of homeopathy ("Homeopathic medicine")
と出てくるので名詞の "homeopathy" で再度辞書を引きます。
Dictionary.com: the method of treating disease by drugs, given in minute doses, that would produce in a healthy person symptoms similar to those of the disease (opposed to allopathy ).
"hair of the dog" による "homeopathic remedy" を何度か試した事がありますが、"ball and chain"（http://blog.alc.co.jp/blog/3302827/archive/2007/08/23）　に詰られる等のside effectがあり、やはり "hair of the dog" による "homeopathic remedy" はリスクが伴うのでなるべく使わない方が安全です。

low-turned posts

赤毛のアンが連れて行かれた部屋にあったベッドの描写

"low-turned" のベッドの足とはどんな形でしょう？
まず "turn" の沢山の意味の中からベッドの足を形容するのに合っていそうなものを探しました。
American Herritage Dictionary: To give a rounded form to (wood, for example) by rotating against a cutting tool.
Dictionary.com:
・to shape (a piece of metal, wood, etc.) into rounded form with a cutting tool while rotating the piece on a lathe.
・to bring into a rounded or curved form in any way.
・to shape artistically or gracefully, esp. in rounded form.
と言うことは "turned" に "low" が付いているので、足は丸いには丸いのだが作りが粗末なのでしょう。

lock, stock and barrel

仕事で技術的なマニュアルなどを和訳するようになったので遅まきながら技術英語に関する本でも読もうかと思い図書館に行ったら、「理系・技術英語の学び方 Upgrade Your English as a Japanese Scientist/Engineer」（見城　尚志、John Lorriman、John Mullins共著、総合電子出版社）が目に付き借りて読みました。　技術者・科学者が英語で著作ができるようにと言うのがこの本の目的なので、私のような和訳をしようとする者の参考書ではないのですが、この本は主に著者の一人、見城　尚志氏（氏はモーターの専門家）自身の経験、英語での専門に関する著作、講演を基にした英語の学び方の本であり、英語を学ぶ人の誰にも参考になる本だと思います。
私のブログは基本的に自分が覚えたい英単語・慣用句について書いていますので、「理系・技術英語の学び方」にあった表現から二点を取り上げます。
次ぎの文は共著者の一人である英国人、John Lorrimanの英国でのICHIBAN, The Japanese Approach To Engineering Educationと題した講演の原稿からです。
The second school of thought says that Japan's success is due to approaches such as Quality Circles and that by transferring these ideas overseas lock, stock and barrel, one can also transfer the success.
"lock, stock and barrel" はいかにも慣用句の響きがしますね。

語呂が良いので簡単に覚えられそうですがどうでしょう？

water

暑い日が続きやっと夏らしくなった感じです。　雨が降らないと畑の水撒きが大変です。 と言っても私は週末しか畑（区民農園）には行きません。　週日は家内が朝の５時頃畑に行って水撒きをしています。
