「大きな古時計」が出版された1876年から2年後、内容的に続編となる「Sequel to "Grandfather's Clock"」が発表されました。

彼女がケースを運んでいった
優美な装飾を施されたマホガニーのケースは

とても悲しい内容の続編です。おじいさんが生前大切にしていたあの大きな古時計が、なんとガラクタ扱いで売り払われ、バラバラに解体されてしまうというショッキングなストーリーです。
作曲者は、前作「大きな古時計」と同じくヘンリー・ワーク。前作のようなヒットはしませんでしたが、レトロで優しい雰囲気が漂い、ワーク独特の温か味のあるメロディーに仕上がっている作品です。では、そのメロディを忠実に聴いてみましょう。
