このところ、手嶌葵さんの「The Rose」をときどき聴いている。
正確には、聴くというよりオーディオのテストソースとして使っていると言った方が良いだろう。
葵さんの少しハスキーがかった美声と音程のたしかさ、加えて、ネイテヴとみまごう発音の正確さに、毎回うっとりと聴き惚れる。
この「The Rose」は、1979年、米国の同名映画の主題歌として登場し、主演のBette Midlerが歌ってヒットした。今ではスタンダードナンバーとして親しまれている。
歌詞は、韻を含んだ美しいもので、所謂、人生の応援歌となっている。
