English Journal １月号にリアルドールに恋した男が主人公の映画 "Lars and the Real Girl" の紹介記事がありその中の "elect" は私の知っている意味とはちょっと違います。
He earnestly introduce the doll to Gus as "Bianca," his nee girlfriend. Gas is appalled as it becomes increasingly apparent that, to Lars, Bianca is a real girl. But Karin, who has never senn Lars so outgoing, elects to play along.
辞書を引いたら何故この文の "elect" に違和感を感じたか直ぐ分かりました。私の知っている "elect" は： "to choose or select by vote, as for an office: to elect a mayor" で選挙に結びついた選択だけで、選挙とは限らない：
