今日の新聞から

今日の読売新聞「編集手帳」に「ぎなた読み」という言葉の説明がありました。文の区切りを間違えて読むことだそうです。「弁慶がなぎなたを持って」を、「弁慶がな、ぎなたを持って」と読んだ昔ばなしに由来する由。英語ではよくあることです。慣れてくると不思議に適切なところで区切れるようになるものの、やはり時々、又はしばしば、あることです。今日もありました。今日のThe Daily Yomiuriにこんなセンテンスがありました。
For every ten bottles brought in a credit worth 4 yen will be given.何回読んでもどこに切れ目があるのかわからなかった。正解は「For every ten bottles brought in, a credit worth 4 yen will be given.」でした。「空きビンを１０本持ち込むごとに、４円相当のクレヂットをもらえます。」という意味です。「brought in a credit」となぜか一気にまとめたがったので、まったくおかしなことになってしまいました。リサイクルに関する東京足立区の取り組みを紹介したものですが、関係の文章を以下に記します。
Credits will be awarded when residents bring plastic bottles to one of four designated supermarkets in the ward, and place them in an automated recycling box equipped with a card reader.For every ten bottles brought in a credit worth 4 yen will be given.
住民がプラスチックの空き瓶を区内の指定スーパマーケット４箇所のうちの１箇所に持ち込んで、カード読み取り機のついている自動改修ボックスにそれを入れたら、クレヂットをもらえることとなります。（・・・で、それは買い物のときにつかえます。）

それからTehran (AFP-Jiji) 発のニュースで、大学生がバス停で他の学生に殺されたというのがありました。その理由が、学生が公衆の面前で奥さんと話していたと言うのですから驚きです。犯人の学生は頭がおかしいのでしょうが、それにしても奥さんと話していたのがきっかけになるとは日本では信じられないことです。

犯人の学生は男女が公衆の場で会話しているのを見てむかついたらしいです。

Chubu Electric Power will buy　,from 2009, electricity from Osaka Gas, which is one of the new entries in the power industry, in order to deal with the shortage of electricity supply.The power company likely wants to expect the gas company as a stable electricity supplier.

The curtain fell on the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. Concerning the North Korean nuclear threat, it is referred verbally in the chairman's final announcement so that all member countries should full-fledgedly implement the sanctions against North Korea. it is thought that China exerted its influence so that North Korean sanctions issue was not included in the final written document.And the final statement said that the Free Trade Agreement covering all memeber countries should be deliberated on in the future.

The Asia-Pacific Econemic Coopeartion conference summit meeting began, and the leaders agreed to accelearte their talks. On the sidelines of the meeting, one -on -one summit talks were also being held.Specifically, at the meeting between Prime Minister Shinzu Abe and U.S. President George W. Bush, they confirmed to strengthen bilateral ties in security and economic activities, to accelarate two countries' cooperation in the missile difense system, and to proceed with in alliance with each other in implementing the sanctions against North Korea.
なにかすっきりとしないようにも思える。もっとsimpleにいえそうですがよくわからない。
