日本は随分と日常が戻ってきましたが、海外はまだそういうわけにいかない国もあります。
この3カ月ギルトブルクのご自宅での演奏やマスタークラス等お伝えしてきましたが、6/15に投稿された記事、彼の中で前向きなままではいられなかった様子が伝わってきて、いつも素晴らしい演奏をこの期間聴かせて下さっていた陰でやはりつらいものがあったことが伺えます。
コンチェルトを無観客でもオーケストラと演奏できる演奏家は今は多くはないと思います。
この若い世代の人たちがここを乗り越えて、またお目にかかれることを祈ります。
今日はラフマニノフ3番のコンチェルトをオケのパートも弾きながら演奏されています。
オケなしでピアニストのソロの部分を聴ける機会などないので貴重です。

Beethoven 32 update – we’re going to film again!
One thing I learned about myself during lockdown, is that I can’t work without a specific aim / deadline. In theory I could have learned the Hammerklavier during these months, and Op. 110 and all the other new sonatas, but in practice, I didn’t manage to work on any of those, simply as I didn’t know when we’ll be filming again. The only thing that kept me going was the daily and weekly broadcasts: I knew I had to perform for you tomorrow or in two days, and only that allowed me to actually concentrate and practise. (Once again, thank you so very much for your support during these months!)
But now we finally have a new filming period! Hopefully – touch wood – fingers crossed – we should be going to the Fazioli Concert Hall in mid-July for two weeks of filming. The aim is to film 14 sonatas (!!). Basically covering all of Beethoven’s middle period, including the Moonlight, Pastoral, Tempest, Waldstein and Appassionata + everything in between.
So the coming month is going to be under the heading of Beethoven Madness. 8 of these 14 sonatas are completely new to me; I’ve already started working on most of them over the weekend, and it’s exciting and wonderful to be working flat-out once again. I’ll be posting a lot of Beethoven-related material as I go along 🙂 And I will of course continue doing broadcasts every few days.
