Without turning his head, Butch cut his eyes at Leon, and Leon returned the glance. Nothing was said because words were not necessary.
"Butch cut his eyes at Leon" ですが、"cut his eyes at" でButchはLeonを見たようですが（Without turning his headとあるのでどの様に？）辞書でニュアンスを調べます。

やはり単に "glanced at" したのとはニュアンスが違うようですね。
