モノがものだけにstinkはごもっともな表現。
「Manila says the containers, which arrived at Manila International Container Port, were falsely labelled as containing plastics meant for recycling and were in fact filled with tonnes of household waste.
Another inspection of the remaining containers in 2015 found they contained non-hazardous municipal waste, including household and street rubbish.」
「これはリサイクル用プラスチックなんですよー」と偽装して…というのは極めて典型的な手口である。

記事冒頭の写真がなかなか衝撃的。まあ、イマドキの”西側先進国”ではこういう状況は見ないわな、ふつう。
「Many environmental campaigners considered it a victory when China clamped down. The amount of plastic taken by China dropped by 94% between 2016-17 and 2017-18.
However, a large proportion of this waste is now being sent to countries across South East Asia such as Malaysia and the Philippines.」
というわけで、環境運動家の勝利というのは誰のコストで成し遂げられることになるのか―という疑問はないではない。あとまあ、どこにどういう運動資源・対応資源を投入するかという、ものっそい問題もなあ、とは思われる。
たいへんぶっちゃけ話をしてしまえば、我々の生活におけるプラ製品問題は、『のべつまくなし投棄しちゃいけません』『分別して資源化！（という建前です）』というのが行き渡った結果、そうまでの問題ではなくなったといえる。いやまあ、これより以上になおも放出されるプラゴミは減らすべきだというのはまったくもってそのとおりだが。
ではなく、後発諸国の現状を考えても見なさい、ということなのだ。
…ちょっとしたお祭りがあると、路上に捨てられたプラカップ・プラ蓋・プラ袋・プラストロー…で足首は優に埋まる。もう、プラ製品の洪水を踏み分ける感じ。リアル洪水ってこんなんだろうなーと思うレベル。そっちのほうが、リアルな物量として問題じゃね？という。
なので、こういうことにもなるよねえ、と納得する：
