The measure tightens media ownership rules and empowers courts to force journalists to reveal their sources.

Domestic media outlets will be banned from receiving overseas funding and dual-nationals prevented from owning press or broadcasting companies.


 二重国籍者によるメディア所有を禁じるとか、外国からの投資を禁じるとか。…自国の報道を防衛する意味では一定の理解があろうけれど。

 生物多様性、2030年ころまで減少を押しとどめようというのはかなり、かなーり無理かなあという雰囲気の様子。

Targets to reverse the decline of biodiversity by 2030 may be missed without urgent action, according to a new report.

This goal was a key part of the UN global summit on biodiversity held in December 2022.

Nearly a third of all monitored species are currently endangered due to human activities.


It says recent losses have been highest in Latin America and the Caribbean, where animal populations have declined by 94% since 1970, mainly due to habitat destruction and overexploitation.

If you could shape an ice cube out of all the ice losses from Greenland and Antarctica over the past three decades, it would stand 20km high.

An international group of scientists who work with satellite data say the acceleration in the melting of Earth's ice sheets is now unmistakable.

They calculate the planet's frozen poles lost 7,560 billion tonnes in mass between 1992 and 2022.

BBC DR Congo president rules out talks with M23 rebels 14 Apr 2023 By Will Ross

The president of the Democratic Republic of Congo has ruled out political negotiations with the M23 rebel group.

As part of an internationally brokered peace deal the group has been withdrawing from areas it had captured.

President Felix Tshisekedi said according to the agreement the M23 rebels are to demobilise before returning to civilian life.

BBC Rebels refuse to disarm in DR Congo conflict 14 Apr 2023

The M23 rebel group in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have said that they will not disarm or demobilise as long as there is no direct political dialogue with the government in Kinshasa.

A rebel spokesman, Lawrence Kanyuka, issued the statement on Twitter after the Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi said there would be no political negotiations with the rebels.

BBC At least 25 dead after Sfax boat wreck - officials 14 Apr 2023

Tunisian officials say 25 people are now known to have died after their boat was wrecked off the port city of Sfax on Wednesday.

Seventy-two of the 110 onboard were rescued. Several are missing.


The Tunisian National Guard says 14,000 migrants have been rescued in the first three months of this year ? five times more than in the same period last year.

BBC Kenya protests: Injured police officer dies 31 Mar 2023 By Richard Kagoe

A police officer who was injured during Thursday’s anti-government protests in western Kenya has died.

Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome said Corp Bernard Oduor died while being treated at an intensive care unit.

He said more than 20 police officers had sustained serious injuries as they repulsed demonstrators in the lakeside city of Kisumu.


President William Ruto has criticised the protesters, saying the constitution does not permit them to engage in violence.

He said the bi-weekly protests were having a negative impact on the economy and disrupting people’s lives.


BBC Kenyan journalists must be kept safe - US 31 Mar 2023 By Richard Kagoe

The US has expressed concern over the safety of Kenyan journalists following reports of attacks as they covered opposition demonstrations.

Press freedom and the protection of journalist are key to democracy, says US Ambassador to Kenya Margaret Whitman.


Six journalists were injured, and their equipment destroyed during the demonstrations that turned violent following clashes between protesters and police.

BBC Kenya opposition leader claims 'assassination' attempt 31 Mar 2023

Kenya's former prime minister Raila Odinga claimed that his car was shot at seven times on Thursday during anti-government protests and said it was an attempt on his life.

In a media briefing, Mr Odinga said police targeted his vehicle and those of other opposition leaders during a protest procession in the Eastlands part of the capital, Nairobi.

He also accused police of targeting journalists during the anti-government protests and claimed there were plans to attack the offices of the leading Royal Media Services group in Nairobi.
