Norikosan and Chyokosan,
I have talked about oriental
painting and I think I have confused you by not explaining properly. When I say
oriental paintings, that includes Japanese (Heian jidai no emaki?Makie?, or
kind of painting that were used in the pattern of kimono(homongi) etc.
Chinese, (Some painting of olden
times were painted on the mirror surface.) Indian,(not American Indian.) Persian(some of them are
Islamic) Turkish. etc. They are highly stylized. After I have looked at those
stylized paintings, and look at Western, paintings that were painted with
scientific proportion, color, and correct view point, They are not
interesting. (iwaba, futsuno e.)Persian painting of old completely disregards
proportion. For instance wild flower is painted as tall as a house. I also
include Byzantine style when I say oriental painting. (Persian to Chinese
to Japanese, Tashikani dentatsu no nagare ga miemasune.)
Indian paintings has pretty colors
next to each other, like peach, pink, pale green, pale blue etc. Westerners do
not do this. But for Indian people it is appealing. I do that in my crazy
quilt.
I have sent you one painting of
Islamic art which has compartments. (Chohokei ya tano katachi ga ippai aru e
desu.)
Hakkiri shita sende
kakurisarete inakutomo, kumo, iwa, aruiwa mizuno nagare nadode (Japanese
kimono) bubun wo wakete kaite arimasu.
I like these paintings, but I do not
have skill or patient to do these ones. My crazy quilts are not
necessarily influenced by these paintings, but they have some of the
ELEMENTS of these paintings.
I usually pick a fabric for a
focal point , (The fabric with a bird, in those I have sent.) Then I collect
other fabric that goes with the color of the focal point. I am careful of
balance of color and shape. I usually repeat color in some area for continuity.
I am mindful of the value( dark, medium and light ) Recently, I started to
use beads for embellishment (kazari). Once I wanted beads, they have a way of
coming to my house. I mean, I found them at rummage sale or my friends started
to give me a lot.
Like paintings I do, I do not
have my own style, unfortunately. I paint in any style. Subject matter dictates
the style I should adapt. Realism or Impressionism) Same way
with crazy quilt, each quilt has different color scheme and different way of
embellishment. I have no idea how they are going to look like until I finish. I
do not have finished picture in my mind. Only by elimination at each step, I
decide how I should proceed. Sukoshi wakatte itadakeruto yoidesuga. Kazuko yori
