The government has decided that it will start to discuss the issue of revising the current statutory number of years for equipment depreciation. At present each depreciation year is decided by law and its related regulations according to the kind of equipment,ranging from 2 to 25 years,with some 400 categories set.Therefore it is thought by many people that the current system is too detailed and then too complicated.In these circumstances the government intends to integrate the classification for the purpose of alleviating the corporate burden in the equipment depreciation management.As to high-technology equipment,it is certain to be shortened of its depreciation year number,in order to maintain Japanese firms' competence in the global market.
