The cardiovascular surgery department was opened in 2009 and has treated thousands of adult patients mainly around Yokosuka and Miura Peninsula who suffered from cardiovascular diseases.
The cardiovascular surgery team consists of 5 doctors including experienced certified surgeons and clinical instructors. The team receives emergency patients correlated with emergency center and cardiologists, and the specialized ambulance with a doctor on board which can come and pick up for primary medical facilities at any time.
The cardiovascular team has aggressively practiced minimally invasive surgery such as follows:
1. Endovascular aortic stent Stent-Graft surgery for aortic aneurysm
2. right mini-thoracotomy valve surgery
3. left mini-thoracotomy multiple coronary bypass surgery.
One-third of cardiac and thoracic aorta surgeries have been performed by minimally invasive approach. Small incision surgery is also called MICS (Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery).
The cardiovascular team has practiced the largest cases of leg varicose veins in Yokosuka and Miura area. Most patients are treated by same-day surgery, and they are applied minimally invasive method with endovascular LASER abrasion or contemporary glue therapy.

In 2020, we were much influenced by COVID-19 pandemic, and the number of operation cases for cardiovascular surgery was decreased by 10%. But after coronavirus vaccine for medical staff, our practice has become normal and operation cases are increasing. Especially the number of valve cases is increasing as the population of senior people is also increasing.
Minimally invasive cardiac and vascular surgery is getting popular, and our team prioritizes safety and quick recovery, especially for elderly people. More than 30% of cardiac and aortic operation already were performed by minimally invasive approach which is highest rate of apply in Kanagawa prefecture. We started to use the state-of-the art 3D endoscope system to complete mini-thoracotomy surgery to upgrade the quality of surgery.
In 2025, a new hospital will be completed in the Kurihama area. The New Yokosuka Medical Center will be the medical center of Miura peninsula with the highest quality hybrid operation system for endovascular cardiac and aortic surgery such as TAVI (Trans-catheter Aortic Valve Implantation).
