"replace" とあれば置き換える、交換する、交代するのような意味・使用法しか頭に入っていないので次ぎの文の "replace" の意味が分かりませんでした。
Reader's Digest 2008年１２月号のRUIN A JOKEと題した記事からです。
A nurse - her name is Joyce - feels a presence in the waiting room. She looks around but sees nothing. She jumps up from her desk, carefully replaces her chair, and runs down the lavender-hued hallway to the doctor's office.
"replace" の意味を物や人を代えることしか知らないので　"replaces her chair" に引っ掛かってしまいました。　そこで辞書です。
