O Henry短編集の２番目の話 "Tobin's Palm" はさっぱり分かりませんでした。知らない単語が幾つも出てくるので一々単語を辞書で引くのですが、それでも意味が分からないところが続出です。（O Henryはなまりを表現するのに標準ではないスペルを使うのも難しく感じる原因の一つですが）　この話はまた後でじっくり読むことにしましたが、次ぎの単語の意味だけは覚えられそうです。
A long man he was, dressed decent, with a segar between his teeth, and I saw that his nose made two twists from bridge to end, like the wriggle of a snake.
上の文の男は眼鏡をかけている訳ではないので "bridge" は鼻の一部に違いありません。　辞書を見ると：
・OneLook Quick Definitions:　the hard ridge that forms the upper part of the nose ("Her glasses left marks on the bridge of her nose")
・American Herritage Dictionary: The upper bony ridge of the human nose.
確かに鼻の上の部分は触って診ると硬いですね。
