ここ最近の反増税デモの結果、一部では警察が圧倒されてしまい、軍を投入することになった。なにしろ20名以上の死者が出ている。…軍隊が出ちゃう数字ですわね…。
「Kenya's High Court has approved the use of military force to restore order, following days of anti-tax protests that at some point overwhelmed police.
More than 20 people have reportedly been killed in the nationwide protests that are largely led by young people opposed to government plans to increase taxes.
Armoured military vehicles patrolled streets in the capital, Nairobi, on Thursday as police fired tear gas to disperse protesters, who had threatened to storm the presidential palace.」
警察が催涙ガス弾をかまし、装甲車が通りを流す。大統領官邸をデモ隊が狙う。
「A judge said that the military deployment was critical to protect government installations but gave the authorities two days to clarify how long the deployment would last, along with its rules of engagement.」
まあ、軍隊を使うのは二日間くらいにしときなさいよ、という但し書きもついている様子。

「Kenya’s President William Ruto says he will withdraw a finance bill containing controversial tax hikes after deadly protests which saw parliament set ablaze on Tuesday.
In an address to the nation, he said it was clear that Kenyans "want nothing" to do with the bill.
"I concede," he said, adding that he would not sign the bill into law.」
死者はこの時点で22名とのこと。本日分の記事と比べると、1日すすんで1人増えたわけだ。悪化度合いは「まだまだマシ」とでも言ったところか。少なくとも「加速度的に悪化」などではない。幸いなことに。

「The original purpose of the demonstrations was to force the president not to sign the bill.

租税の基本的な目的は再配分にあろう。いやそれはそれで政治的立場の表明かもしれないが、私の理解としてはそんなところ。そして全国民の共働の試みとして位置付けるため、みんなからまあまあの額を徴収するのも尤もなことだ。でなきゃあ、金持ちたちのカネでだけ維持される、金持ちのための国家になりかねない。
そこまではいいとして。ではそうした目的を実現するために、いったい何にどれほどの税負担を求めるか―そのバランスに失敗したわけなのだろう。

But prominent people linked to the protests warned against this because of the risk of further violence.」
大統領官邸を狙うと抑圧側の実力行使がキッツくなるよ？という警告もデモ側有力者にあること（さっきの記事にもあったかな）。頼むからその辺の戦略は立てておいていただきたい。悪化してくれるなよー…。
