復興の白梅が咲きました A white plum tree of the revival bloomed.

　茨城県水戸市で、あるご家族の庭の白梅が、開花しました。
ここは、私の住む笠間市から15キロメートルのところです。
海に近いので、春が少しだけ早く訪れます。
A white plum tree in a certain family's garden flowered in Ibaraki Prefecture Mito City.
Here is from Kasama City to 15 kilometers where I live.
Spring comes only a little early because it is near the sea.
この梅は、毎年、最も早く開花します。
しかし、今年は低温のため、例年よりも遅い開花です。
This plum tree flowers earliest every year.
However, this year is late flowering because of the low temperature annually.



日本が鎖国していた時代から、この梅の木はありました。
そして、50年前に、庭の端から中央に、この梅を移動する工事が行われました。
10年前、庭の改造を行った時には、私たちは、この梅を中心にして、庭の設計を行いました。
There was a tree of this plum tree since the age that Japan had closed.
And, construction that moved this plum tree from the edge of the garden to the center was done 50 years ago.
We designed the garden centering on this plum tree.



　この梅の正確な樹齢は、不明です。
既に100年前には、幹の外周は、1.5メートル以上ありました。
An accurate age of a tree of this plum tree is uncertain.
There were already 1.5 meters or more outer of the trunk 100 years ago.



根元には、キツネの巣穴があり、キツネたちが子育てに利用していました。
In the root, there was fox's nest hole, and foxes were using it to bring up childs.



その後、幹の中心部は腐りました。
そして、その周辺の樹皮が生き残り、成長を続けました。
幹の中心が腐っても、梅は希望をもって、成長を続けました。
その姿を観察する人々は、皆、感動します。
Afterwards, the central portion of the trunk rotted.
And, bark in the circumference kept surviving, and it growing up.
The plum tree kept having hope, and growing up even if the center of the trunk rots.
All people who observe the appearance are impressed.



長い歴史を経て、この梅の幹は、複雑な形をしています。
長い歳月にわたり、災難を越えて生き抜いた、老いた梅の姿を、私たちは讃えます。
The trunk of this plum tree has complex shape through a long history.
The misfortune was exceeded, lived through during long years, and we praise the appearance of an aged plum tree.



梅は、老いても、決して春の到来を忘れることはありません。
雨に濡れながら、梅は、今年の新しい崇高な香りを放ちはじめました。
The plum tree never never forgets the coming in spring even if growing old.
The plum tree began to shoot a sublime smell that this year is new while getting wet in the rain.



　私は、老いた梅の木の、新しい幹を見ています。
そして、私は新しい幹の上に、若々しい成長の痕跡を発見して、深く感動します。
梅の木と同じように、幹の中心が腐ることがあっても、私たちも、希望を保ち続けたい。
I am looking at a new trunk of the tree of an aged plum tree.
And, I am deeply impressed to discover signs of youthful growth on a new trunk.
Even if the center of the trunk might rot just like the tree of the plum tree, we want to keep also keeping hoping.



昨年の東日本では、たくさんの梅の木が、人々とともに被災しました。
茨城県水戸市の伝統ある公園も、大きな被害を受けました。
そして、恒例の梅の花の祭典も、開催が中断されたのです。
A lot of plum trees were struck with people in last year's East Japan.
The park with the tradition of Ibaraki Prefecture Mito City also received big damage.
And, holding was interrupted as for the festival of customary plum blossoms.



まもなく、あの日から一年が過ぎる頃になり、白梅の花たちが咲きだしました。
私はまた、この古い梅の下に立ちました。
そして、美しい日本の梅の花たちが語る、鎮魂といたわりの言葉を聞きました。
私たち日本人は、梅の花を見ながら、これからも努力を続けます。
One year from that day came to pass, and white plum blossoms began to bloom soon.
I also stood under this old plum tree.
And, plum blossoms in beautiful Japan talked, and the word of the repose of soul and consideration was heard.
Hereafter, we Japanese will keep making an effort while seeing plum blossoms.
