第７５回日本胸部外科学会総会が今年は横浜市で開かれました。筆者は初日の評議委員会から３日間参加し、当施設からはポスター含めて４演題の発表がありました。筆者は冠動脈のセッションでMICS-CABGにおける腋窩動脈中枢吻合の有用性とピットフォールという演題名で発表させていただきましたが、MICS-CABG関連の発表が少ないことに驚きました。冠動脈外科学会ではさすがにMICS-CABGのセッションがあったりしますが、胸部外科学会総会では心臓胸部大血管、呼吸器、食道と三領域にまたがる広範囲かつ大規模な学会であるためMICS-CABGにようなニッチな内容を取り上げるのは難しいのと、実施施設が少ないので演題応募する施設が少ないのだと思います。
Annual meeting of thoracic surgery
Today, the annual meeting of thoracic surgery will be held for 4 days in Yokohama. I have to attend the board of trustee, and make two presentations of minimally invasive cardiac surgery with mini-thoracotomy.
One of my presentations is about the lateral thoracotomy approach heart surgery which can avoid the surgical wound trouble for breast cancer patient with radiation therapy. Radiation therapy is expected to eradicate the cancer cells after mastectomy, but often causes skin troubles called radiation dermatitis. Cardiac surgeons should avoid the skin incision at the site of radiation where the wound heeling may be impaired. A technique for minimally invasive cardiac surgery with lateral mini-thoracotomy enable to do the operation without touching the radiation site.
The other presentation is about an option technique for minimally invasive coronary bypass surgery. I will propose the proximal anastomosis of a bypass graft in the left axillar artery in order to avoid touching impaired or poor visioned ascending aorta which is usually used. It enables multiple revascularization thorough lateral mini-thoracotomy.
Presenting at conferences is a great way to promote your facility. Even more exciting than that is the opportunity to meet close surgeon friends who work at other facilities.
