rake and dissolute

先月のASJ例会でのレクチャーは "Flowers for the Shogun" と題された、日本の出島に1775-76年の間滞在したスウェーデンのBotanist、Carl Peter Thunbergの興味深い話でした。　レクチャーの紹介文の一節です。
The talk will introduce the career of Thunberg, but will concentrate on the little-known story of his encounters with Japanese intellectuals - and rakes - and his role in the history of Japanese science and scientific illustration.
"rake" の意味は熊手しか思い浮かびませんが、ここでは "intellectuals" 同様にある種の人間を表しているはずです。　辞書を見ます。
