6月第2週 Listen for it!は以下のような内容でした。
The Lake Valley Regional Library will be starting a book
club open to all adults, age 18 and over. The sign-up
sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the library lobby.
The book club meetings are informal and members will
take turns being the discussion leader. The first book
club meeting will be on Tuesday June 30th from six thirty
to seven thirty p.m. in the conference room on the second
floor. Subsequent meetings are slated to be held on the
last Tuesday of every month. This month's book selection
is Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. July's selection
is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The selection for
August is My Antonia by Willa Cather. If you are an avid
reader and enjoy the classics, don't miss this chance to
discuss some of the all-time favorites of American Literature.

Gone with the Wind 邦題：風と共に去りぬ
マーガレット・ミッチェル著
長編ですが、娯楽的要素が強いので、あっという間に読了しました。
米国内戦（南北戦争）時代の雰囲気がよく解り、面白かったです。
それにしてもジョージ・アシュリー・ウィルクスは頼りにならない
人ですね。「色男（美男子）金と力はなかりけり」ってことなので
しょう。
戦後紙くずとなった南部紙幣（レプリカ）
To Kill a Mockingbird 邦題：アラバマ物語
ハーパー・リー著
南部アラバマ州に暮らす弁護士一家が、黒人男性の弁護を引き受けた
ために、周囲から白い目で見られ、あげくは生命の危険にまでさらさ
れる。というのが（大雑把な）あらすじです。
重いテーマにもかかわらず、心地よい読後感でした。
また本書に綴られた一家の父親（アティカス）の子供への思いは、
子育てに悩んだ時、何らかの指針を与えてくれそうです。

My Antonia 邦題：私のアントニーア
ウィラ・キャザー著
ボヘミアから米国に移住して来たシメルダ一家の娘、アントニーア
の人生を軸として話が進みます。アントニーアが移民として直面する
諸問題（新しい土地、言葉、文化に順応することの難しさ）、故国へ
の捨てがたい思い等が、細やかに描写されていました。
美しい小説です。
